I bought a brand new 1300S the middle of May. My first bike. I love it. But, I've been riding since then, over 1600 miles, and still can't ride but about 30 or 40 miles without my butt killing me. My question: Will a purchase of the Mustang seat make that much difference? Will that solve my problem?

thanks, Mike

The Mustang is an excellent seat. I would suggest trying one if at all possible. I had a Mustang and the only thing I didn't like was that it put me right on the gas tank. I tried the Ultimate seat and put the Mustang up for sale the next day and ordered the 4 piece BigBoy, love the seat!

Have around 6400 on my stock seat. Think it "breaks in" after awhile. Give it another 1k and see how you feel before you spend 400+ $$$ on a seat.

$400 ?????? More like $700 if you get all 4 pieces. But well worth every penny!!!

20,000 miles on the bike, 19,000 were on the Ultimate seat.

See their seats at www.ultimateseats.ca

I was one of those guys who always said "Why would I spend all that money on a seat when the stock one was just fine" Well I'm here to tell you that its not fine and never will GET fine. Once I plopped my butt on an Ultimate Big Boy there was no going back. NUFF SAID !

Mike,

I bought a Corbin Dual Tour seat for my VTX and love it very much. The Corbins are known for being a little firmer of a pad in the seat and it took approx 1000 mile to get it broke into my butt, after that I could ride a full tank of fuel out with no problem. My wife feels the same way. I did buy a Mustang seat for a 2002 Honda I had and it made a difference as well. Between the 2 , I liked the Corbin best and price was comparable between the 2. Hope this helps. Pat

Another Ultimate seat here. Aside from the comfort, I am extremely happy with the design options available. I got the red ostrich inlay and it matches the paint perfectly and makes mine easy to pick out of a crowd.

I've got over 12,000 miles on my stock seat and my butt is still happy. LOL. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. (not sure what that's saying about my butt though. :icon_roll )

I just re-shaped my stock seat. All you have to do is take the cover off and flatten out the seating area, I used a air grinder to shape it then re-covered it with the stock seat cover. I have over 17k miles on the X and love it. I had a Mustang and it sat allot better but it moved me up towards the gas tank and raised the riding position about an inch also and I didn't like that.

I purchased the Mustang seat w/drivers back rest. It was the best purchase I have ever made. I can ride for hours without stopping. It feels like I'm sitting in my recliner. It is that comfortable. No more numb ass.

[I][FONT=Comic Sans MS]Anything is better than stock. I have the Mustang seat. I have heard that the Ultimate is real good.

Great thread and some good info on some seats for our ass. I also have a stock seat and will be ordering the ultimate. Seems that the ultimate is preffered by more VTXers over the mustang.

I had the same problem with my seat on my VTX 1300 retro, I live in northern Calif. I took my bike to Corbin seat company and they made me a seat just for me and it is the best thing I could have done.

I haven't had my vtx long enough to make any rash decisions yet, but I did take a 3-hour cruise last week end with only one quick fuel stop ($$$$).
I actually like the stock seat....especially compared to the one on my V Star, which gave me a constant wedgy.
I do plan to add a thin layer of gel foam and have my seat recovered with leather. A local upholsterer here has a good reputation for re-styling stock seats and covering them for $100 or so. (using my leather) I'm doing it more for effects without spending a bunch, but so far my butt likes it stock. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, too.
