View Full Version : Where oh Where to Mount the Garmin

I got my Zumo 550 last week, and with the bad weather here I've contented myself with running errands in the cage just to hear it tell me how to get to the store.
Yesterday, I did a bunch of other work on the scooter, but couldn't decide where to mount the unit. All the wiring and mounts I need are in the box, so I'm trying to figure out where I'd like it best. I can mount it to the bars in the center or use the clutch clamp mount to put it out on the left.
So, the question is where do you have your GPS units mounted? Has anyone tried multiple places? Which is easiest to see - and operate? Thanks in advance!

My Garmin C340 is mounted via a Rma Mount on the center of my handlebar. I like it there because the GPS speedometer is more accurate than the bike's. Easy to see when riding. Rode some twisties with my brother just west od Stanton, Virginia. I could see the turns before he could. Yes he rode lead.

Get in contact with Big-X. He had a cool custom mount made for him, and if you're nice he just might share the design with you.

BigX's mount will only fit an 1800. Mine is in the center on a Ram mount like the other folks. I asked Ray this very question when I got mine because I knew he started with his to the side. He said he prefered the center.

Yep, Bryan made mine and I like it where it is. He had made a few for people and has got shafted on getting paid (not from this site) so he may make you one but he might ask for measurements and payment up front...lol
Here's mine:

sweet! Thanks Big-X! I did get both an auto and 2 bike mounts with the unit. One is to attach to the clutch clamp and the other is for the bars themselves. Since I have the two piece risers I think the OEM will do for now. I'll see about mounting it this weekend to be sure - if I have any concerns I'll touch base with my namesake and see if I can coax one from him. :>
