Ohh, did YOU open a bag of worms.
Welcome, and the problem with pipes that 'aren't too loud', is that 'loud' is subjective.
I just put Cobra Speedster Longs on my 1300R, and they actually sound pretty nice. I'd have preferred a slightly quieter pipe, but think these are as quiet as an aftermarket gets.
If you can find other VTX riders in your area, you can ask/listen to what they have, and get an idea. You can also go to youtube and find some 'half way' decent comparisons.
Good luck, and have fun.

hard krome strippers are lighter than stock pipes and larger pipe diameter, but there loud.

Remember loud pipes might tick off your neighbors but they do help cagers to hear ya coming.

HI Matt. Hard to say on the pipes but most sound good. Your 1800 will sound different then the 1300 so I can't help you there. You can check out the http://www.californiavtxriders.com/forum/ forum and ask there. Most of the CA guys on the board ride 1800s so that is the best place to start. But, the Cafe is a great place to hang out.

Welcome, Bravo!
As far as pipes, the Bub Jug Huggers can be midified with different baffles, all the way from their "stealth" line on up to something loud as all heck... They even have something called "torque chambers" whatever the heck they are....and they look pretty cool too. If I was to change from stock (as yet I have considered it, but haven't as I personally like the stock look and sound), the Bub manufacture pipes seem to be the nicest, just my personal opinion, and in no way menat to disparage anyone else's pipe selection...
