My son is home from the Navy after finishing A school in the Navy.

Last night he stayed at a friends house and today he was home but his truck was not here. I asked where his truck was and "it's in the shop" was the answer. Parked down the street was a brand new motorcycle...odd I thought for a bike to be parked there and really odd since he had a few bike quotes but said he was not planning on buying a bike.

Well, after finding out his truck was not in the shop I straight out asked, "did you buy a motorcycle"..he said no. So I asked again, "so your telling me the motocycle parked down the street is not yours?" he then admitted he bought a BRAND NEW motrcycle. He has no motorcycle license, he's never rode a bikeon the street, and did I mention he is BROKE?!?!

His new payments on the bike will be $170, his insurance on the bike will be $215 a month (he has a few tickets). Oh, did I mention his truck payments for the truck he just bought are $110 and his truck insurance is $130? That's $625 a month for these payments!!!! Oh, he makes $800 a month...

Oh, and he now has a credit card payment (one I know of) and he's still broke...has $50 to his name.

GOD am I pissed at him right now...REALLY PISSED. He must have slept thru the finance class in the Navy.

Any suggestions? A good beating, lock him out, ......errrrgggghhhhh

A buddy of mine has a GSX-R 1000. It's a good looking bike with A LOT of power. It's too bad that is so damn uncomfotable. You don't want to ride this one for any long period of time. Maybe thats why thier so fast.

Not a chance. My back would be kiling me riding that thing and no way in hell am I taking over the payments.

He's digging this hole...

Oh, I came home this morning and his front brake lever is broke and looking down the side and it looks like he dropped it last night...

I hope your son opens his eyes. I started riding a bike during the first gas crunch in the 70's, but I took the motorcycle safety class (it's required in the military) and got my motorcycle endorsement.
He's also in serious danger of ruining his credit (unless dad helps out!).
Good luck fixing these issues.

From what I understand the Navy requires sailors to have a the safety class before they can ride their bikes on base. It will truley be funny if he can't take the class, they ship out and he is making payments nearly $400 a month for it.

Oh, we did the math today...he financed this bike for 4 years, his total cost for it and insurance will be over $16,000 during the 4 years, not including maintenance.

Want to see what a $16,000 bike looks like?

Everyone "lives and learns" through their younger years. They call them growing pains in some circles, but it usually is a PITA for the parents. He'll wisen up. One of the big problems in today's world is that credit is so easy to get and just as easy to ruin! Hope it works out, he learns from this, and he stays safe.

Man, can I empathize with you! My 19 year old son pulled the same crap. One day he decided to trade in the perfectly good used car that I had helped him buy and traded it in for a new fully loaded pickup truck. Now with his car payment and insurance, he can barely make it. Not to mention the price of gas. I don't plan on bailing him out - although it will be somewhat embarrassing when the repo man comes - only wish he'd join the Navy!!

Well an update, he has not been able to take a safety class so there it sits. He is shipping out for a trip to Boston tomorrow, will come back for 2 weeks and go back to Boston for Harborfest...so that's $400 for a motorcycle to sit there it's first month.

Well, he got hit Sunday, tore up the bike but somehow he didn't get hurt...just road rash on his palms.

He said a lady crossed over into his lane and hit the back of the bike taking him down. Not for sure since he was trying to lie about even having the accident but I got the letter from his insurance company asking about the accident.
