I purchased a new '05 VTX 1800 a couple of months ago. It is called a VTX18ST2. I need to buy some crash bars, at a good price. I also need to figure out how to use this forum.
I am very happy with my new bike but I want to make it rev higher. I was told not to waste my time buying a Power Commander, it will not increase my RPM's. I was told I have to get a new ECM (electronic control module.) Does anyone have any info on how to go about this? I used to own A Valkyrie, I totaled it. It was the fastest cruiser around. Is it possible to reflash the ECM? I want to go fast.
thank you,
Kaboom

Welcome to the forum!
I don't have any answers for you, unfortunately. But I do have a question: What attracted you to the 1800? I kinda get the vibe that you'd be more the crotch-rocket type.

Welcome, Kaboom.
The VTX has a rev limiter. You do not want to by-pass this, as one of the two pistons is aimed right at you. 900CC's worth of metal shooting out of a cylinder like a cannon is not a good thing.
You will go plenty fast as it is, but if you want to add power to this V-Twinn, there is the B&B computer (http://www.biglry.com) and pipes like the jug huggers that have a thing they call a torque chamber (check out http://www.xtremerevolution.com for the exhaust system).
Remember, as said above, this is a cruiser, not crotch rocket, and is not as maneuverable as one...but is a very comfortable ride, even at 80 MPH+

kaboom....Your screen name will be the sound you hear if you try to bypass the rev limiter on a big V-twin motor...These things don't rev like an inline four, or the flat six in the Valkyrie...I had a '76 Goldwing (1000cc flat four)..That thing would rev to like 9k if I remember right...Not a VTX though...Think about what kind of damage would happen should the connecting rods in your motor decide to not connect anymore due to overreving while hauling ass down the road...That's a really big piston that's gonna try it's best to bust the head bolts and throw all that shrapnel right at your crotch....I don't want anymore kids myself, but I'm not gonna go to that length to assure that I don't.....You might want to let this go man...

Welcome to the Cafe kaboom. I take ride to your area once in a while. Like Bassdude says, you will nly damage your new bike. The best manager is the B&B. A little more money then the PC but much better. Here is a link: http://www.biglry.com/

Dudes,
Thank you for the input. I guess I better not bypass the rev limiter. If anybody is in the Tehachapi area of California (50 miles south of Bakersfield) look me up. There's alot of nice roads around here. I love riding and i'm always up for a ride

Welcome to the Cafe. I used to live at Edwards AFB from 79 through 82, spend two years at Desert High School there. Do they still have a rivalry with Tehachapi High? Seemed the rivalry was pretty big back then.

Welcome Kaboom to the cafe. I am new to the 1800r VTX also. I traded in a 97 Valkyrie Tourer. What a great bike. I really miss it. It was so much faster than my VTX.I really have to learn to just cruise.I am in SanDimas if you ever make it down this way,Chris 909-599-7741
