I am contemplating purchasing a Zumo 550. If anyone has any experience with it, can you please post the Pro's and Con's of this system?
Thanks and Happy Riding All...

I have been looking at this one for a long time. I have ridden with a guy that has one and it is great. I have been waiting for the price to drop some but I am ready to buy at any time. The Zumo 550 is the way to go. No CONs about it.

I bought one a couple months ago. I haven't had it my bike yet but I use the crap out of it in the truck. It's great. Especially the Blue-Tooth features. It connects to my phone as well as my Jawbone head set. When I get a call it shows up on the screen of the 550. That's so cool...
I can't wait to get it on my bike.

+1 Golla. I have mine mounted on the bike, but with winter it's been mostly in the cage. It's easy to operate, and came with cage and bike mount gear included. I'm real pleased and I'll post more this summer when I plan to use it on longer trips with the XM antenna and bluetooth headset (still have to choose those...)

I've had the Zumo 550 for about 3 months now. Christmas present to myself. Haven't used it on the bike much yet, but I do have it mounted. I've got a headset on order now. I have used it plenty in the car. This thing is awesome. No more paper maps for me.

This is the best price I have seen in a while. That is where I got mine and it was very quick service. They were running a sale on them for $619 at Christmas, but then they immediatly went up after Christmas. This is the cheapest I've seen them since then.

Hmmm, that is interesting. That is way lower than dealer cost, actually the 638 is below dealer cost. My shop is a Garmin Aviation dealer and employees are allowed to buy one piece of Garmin equipment per year for 10% below dealer cost, my Zumo was $613 with shipping.

After you saying that I went back and looked at the Credit Card records to make sure I wasn't mistaken. Sure enough, I paid $619.97. Maybe that's why they went up right after I bought. Their mistake, my good fortune.

That's a really good price. I love Garmin. Great features and some fun icon downloads. I would also recommend a RAM mount. I have one for my 650 and it's fantastic!

Gents,
This is probably an unnecessary reminder, but make sure you check out whatever online retailer you are thinking of using. When I was pricing the Zumo 550, I found a price of $600, but when I checked out the seller's rating EVERY review was horrible noting that the company wouldn't ship stuff without buying extras and such. A real scam.
Now the good. I bought mine from Beach Camera via Amazon and paid $632 and change with free shipping. Had it in two days. :)
Anyway look for reviews of the joint you wanna buy from and ensure they are reputable.

Awesome product. My friends use it on our rides all the time.
One of the coolest features is its ability to track and record rides which you can then load online to view maps and see stats. You can also load planned rides onto it.
Can't say that there are overwhelming cons, but one that we had stopped working for no aparent reason and we had to send it in. I have to say that Garmin support was very responsive and replaced the entire unit.

Not meaning to jump the thread or change the subject but I have a ton of questions about your X towing a trailer ?????

I just got the hitch and trailer a couple of months ago. I've tried a couple of short rides with it to make sure it towed ok, but nothing very long yet. We will be making our maiden voyage next week. We've got a group ride planned, going to North Carolina on May 3rd thru May 6th. Should be about a 900 mile round trip the way we've got it planned. I should know more about it works out after that trip.

the 550 is a wonderful gps.....for every reason and then some......not perfect, some trouble with the bluetooth stuff, but overall I'd get it again in a sec....it comes with a ram mount for it, which is bike and 550 specific, also with a mount for your cage......easy to use, easy to read, lots of great features...get it!!!!!

Had mine a few months now. It's a winner! Bluetooth is good, nav is great. I like the gas gauge, it warns you when you're low and even presents a list of the nearest fuel stops and will nav you to them. I'm much more comfortable taking back roads. It also does a great job of adjusting to missed turns, reroutes, etc... I took it on a business trip to Boston and it was wonderful, good directions and when we wanted sea food places it had the list and directions right there.
I know it's pricey but it's very much worth the price.

The 450 looks to be pretty much the same GPS minus XM and bluetooth...
It's about time to get a new bolt on GPS for the car, so I might as well get one that works on the bike too!
My only question is how old are the maps? I hate spending money on a GPS to have 2 or 3 year old maps and have to drop another 80-100 on new map software. Caller ID on the screen would be sweet. When I am riding while working, I can know which calls I can safely ignore!
I ordered a BlueAnt interphone bluetooth helmet kit... wonder how much battery life on the headset I would get listening to XM on the 550...

upon further review, it appears that bluetooth will work to transmit turn by turn, and MP3's, but NOT XM. How am I going to listen to XM while driving around lost and talking on the phone???:hmm2:

it looks like this GPS has been out almost 2 years. Anybody heard about a potential replacement by Garmin? I would hate to order, have to pay to upgrade the maps, and then like 3 days later Garmin says, oh we have the new 560 out, it does everything the 550 did, but in addition it will massage your neck and feet:)

How do you keep it charged without a 12V plug?
I have a 750 that I want to hook up.

the 550 comes with a holder that allows you to hardwire it to the bike....whenever you place it in the holder, it just turns on!

Okay, so I'm not the only one still wondering this. Can the demand STILL be that high?? :hmm2:
Hey, all you big spenders... pull back for a minute... let the price drop... I wanna play too! :( :bleh::D
