Take that plung , run that drill until you hear the sound you want.:cheers:To be honest the day i brought mine home (with less than 15 miles on it) ,I drilled 6 holes in it. Then turned right around and drilled 16 holes(8 in each pipe) in my best friends 1300c which had 200 miles in it. So go for it have fun, drill a hole start it , want it louder drill another. Do it until your happy with the sound.

Do the mod now, or you'll burn in hell.
Sounds much better than stock.
I did mine immediately after riding it home.
7 holes is the trick. Most people go 3 of them deep thoguh the second baffle.

I'll give you about 3 months before you bite the bullet and get a whole new set of pipes though...sound is addictive.

I did the mod with 8 holes each pipe 2 of them deep with the bike at about 120 miles and took the bike for about an hour ride. Came home parked the bike and went directly online to find some pipes.... Sound is definately addictive!!

man, you nailed it...did the mod as well with less than 200 miles...and it did sound much better than stock...2 weeks later bought a set of dragsters and was really happy...just for fun, I took out the baffles this evening and drove it....freakin awesome sound...if I were to do it again, I would just buy pipes and keep the original stock pipes wrapped up and safe somewhere...once you drill your pipes they will never be stock again....it does sound better, but if you do any highway driving you will not hear them, neither will anyone else. It took bout an hour to put new pipes on...(1st time)...good luck with your drilling!

hey all,
im new here, and wanna do the mod. ive got the basics, but how much further than through the outer end cap is "going deep". does anyone do the center baffle?? how often do folks have a popping on decel issue?
any help is great.
Thanks

As reference, here's a pic of what's in the stock muffler:
2137

The center pipe is already open on the inside. When you drill the outermost plate, your letting some of the gases out of the lat (3rd) chamber of the muffler.
When you go 'deep' with 3 or 4, your also letting gases out of the middle (2nd) chamber.
There's no way you'll get into the first chamber without just hacking the pizzz out of the pipe and removing the guts. If you're going to do that though, you may as well just get new pipes or slip-ons to replace the mufflers.
If you really like the look of stock but want more sound, there is a company called vtxExhaust that will take most of the guts out of stock and put in a high-performance baffle. If I remember, their price is around $300 with exchange, so slightly less than new pipes.
The Clayton mod is the logical first step though, and is pretty much a free mod. have fun experimenting. Worst case, you can buy some bolts and plug the holes.

A 12 inch drill will do ya for the 2nd plate. I have had no popping or de-cel issues. Everything else on my bike is stock as far as the carb, air intake, exhaust. (chrome bling not included):D
