Not sure where to post this question, but since my pipes are installed and the carbs rejetted, I figured this is the best place to start. I'll take my whoopin' if necessary. :)
Last fall I installed a set Morton's Stalker II's. I replaced a set of Cobra's I had installed. The Cobra's weren't loud enough to keep people from cutting me off!! Now I got people rolling up their windows! :bleh:
Anyway, my question is sort of directed to a member called Scar as that is the name that was mentioned on another forum. I'd like to get some advice on the proper A/F setting my bike needs to be set at. The instructions with the jet kit said 3½ out from closed. My pipes started bluing from the get go, and that bothered me a little. My mileage went from mid 40's to low 30's and that also bothered me. I've screwed so much with the A/F setting that my pipes are now a rainbow of deep purple at the top of the pipes, next to the engine, to a golden color half way towards the bottom! I had gotten some really bad advice during the course of this process as well. I don't know the exact jet sizes off the top of my head that came with the kit, but they were, supposedly, for my bike. I've gotten varying explanations as to what backfiring means. But right now I have my A/F set at 3 1/8th out. The bike starts fine, runs smooth at all speeds with no hesitation or backfiring. I do get some popping when I let off the throttle, but not a lot.
So I guess I would like to know if my current setting is close. I'd like to ride knowing I'm not damaging my engine, and I would like to stop the discolorization, if possible. And if there any procedures on removing or reducing the discolorization, that would be appreciated too!
Thanks in advance.
