Friends,
I have been hearing about making a swap between the final drives of the 1300 and the 1800. I hear that folks running the 1800 like the long-leggedness of the 1300 final drive, and the folks running a 1300 like the off-the-line performance of the 1800 final drive in their 1300. I'm not talking about just swapping out the rear wheel, here...but the whole rear end, from the drive shaft back. I was at a local custom shop Saturday and the owner did the swap on a 1300S model, using a final drive from an 1800. He said the swap cost nothing but the shipping since he found an 1800 owner who wanted the 1300's final drive. He said the swap was relatively easy, and he rode my 1300C (stock) and the modified 1300S back-to-back and said there was no comparison....the S was much more powerful feeling. What have your experiences been with this mod? Does it kill fuel mileage? :hmm2:How about top-end (I already would like a 6th gear -- and this seems like it would only make that feeling worse...!)? :choppersm
Thanks for your thoughts,
G

I think around town it would probably be a lot of fun but on the open road it will feel painful. The 1300 would end up reving higher and the top end would be less than exciting not to mention gas mileage will suffer because the engine is working harder.
Just my .02

What is it, 2.8 (1300) to 3.1 (1800) or something like that,,,,
I have not done the mod but hopefully someone who has will have some hard data to share. (I'd like the performance of the 3.1 with yet another gear {6th}, but jeesh, 4th and 5th are overdrive ratio's already! What would 6th have to be? .5 to 1?)

the 1300 revs about 300 faster at 72, Wayne runs one on his 1300.

His mpg is the same or better than what I am getting 38-42
