I am about to change the stock grips on my 08' 1300R and was how to remove them. I have never done this before and was wondering if there are any pointers to doing this. I just bought new ISO grips w/ end caps.

all you need is a good sharp razor blade and cut them right down the middle and peel them off

If you want to preserve them, they come off easily.

Use a small, long flat-blade screw driver. Work it under the grip, spray in some WD40 and keep working it around until it comes off. Shouldn't take five minutes.

Take the end caps off first......

Oh yes, good point!

And make sure you are standing next to your bike when you start.

The throttle side end cap unscrews off. The other side just pulls off.

Changed mine last night. I found that it's easier to use a air compressor with a pointed air nozzle. Just insert nozzle and air it up a little and they pull right off. Worked great for me and didn't damage old grips what so ever.

Got a question along the same lines. How do you remove the Iso Grips? I used the supplied Death Grip glue to put them on.

Well, I changed bars after installing my ISO's, so 'here I am' again.

I used a small screwdriver to try and break the grip away from the glue, and WD-40. It was a BUGGER and left small (interior) pieces of the ISO still attached to the bar. Harder than removing the factory grips, IMO.

It did not 'destroy' the ISO's. I used 'Gorilla Glue' to re-attach them to my new bar. (I do not like the SHORT set time of the Kury glue!)

Caution, Kury glue sent with grips is poor quality. A couple of weeks ago, tokk off from stop light, poor throttle response, kept turning throttle and would hardly go, I thought WTF? Pulled over and dicovered the glue disentegrated and grip was spinning on sleeve, got home by squeezing the rubber on the sleeve, then super glued grip back on. BTW I tried using the hairspray method and it didn't come close to working. FWIW get rid of the Kury glue and use a quality glue.

FWIW...used the Kury glue on 2 bikes and problem free to date. Maybe I got lucky...

Anyone ever use the tape that is used to hold grips onto golfclubs? :hmm2:
Just a thought ... I am about to change my grips and was thinking about doing that to mine.

There's another thread that I started in here (Get a grip???), and that's the way that most have said works best.....Golf grip tape and lighter fluid....

My first time changing out a set, some very helpful tips here. Thanks.
One question, is it neccessary to keep the grey plastic ring on the clutch side?
I'll be posting some pics of the "new look" soon.

I took my ISO grips off a stock C handle bar using thin steak knife and a hacksaw blade. Just took my time and worked slowly. Once I got the steak knife in I replaced it with the hacksaw and just went around the bar. luckily they came off without any major problems. I agreee about the glue. Once you put it on the grips you best make sure how you want the grips to look. I have the flame grips.an location was a big concern of mine. Did a dry run several times before using the glue. That worked out fine.

Thanks to Glen for this great write-up: http://www.grmorris.com/pictures/vtxoa/kuryakyn-grips-install/index.htm

I struggled getting the old grips cause I didn't want to destroy them. This article was a God send. Once I got them off, I change to a Fatty Bar and ISO's.

The ISO grips came with (2) bottles of Death Grip, BOTH dried up. Urrrrg. Ready to install and now what? So I read up on this and tried the hairspray route. Paid a whole $1 for a cheapy can and it worked GREAT. Should be easy to remove if I every have to.

The results: new Fatty Bar, ISO grips, a little bling and Voilą . It looks GREAT!.:choppersm
