Had my current bike a little over a year now. Yeah I get the itch to get a new one now and then but my big plan is to keep this one for at least 5 years. Not gonna swear that I'll stick to that but I think it makes the most sense. If my 04 C with 6500 miles on it is worth 5500.00 how much lower can it go? I figure the next 3.5 years is gonna be cheap riding. Don't think the bike will have a problem lasting that long. Some new tires a mod or two here and there really ain't gonna cost that much. What plan if any do you all have?

I see you've got the 2.5"s on your Bike.Is it rejetted? Around Lincoln, Hartley, Greensboro, and south, why would you need anythimg else? You guys still have the 55 mile limit? Unless you come up on a crotch Rocket or one of the newer monster bikes there ain't much out there that you can't run with. I thought about the 1800, but I do alot of in town running. The 1300 will out handle it in town by a bunch. Bikes are a lot like boats. If you bought it to resell later, uh oh. Not even Harley can brag about that anymore. When I bought mine I knew it was going to be my last anything I was going to buy to drive. Eyes are just about gone. I don't regret my decision to buy the 1300 over the 1800 one bit. Now then if you are a freeway hauler, You might want to move up, if you're planning on going west of the mississippi. Even then, I run mine 75 to 85 all day long, and they still pass me like I'm standing still. Good bike all around. JMO. Greg....

No rejet on the bike. No problems, word has it unless you change airbox no need to. We do have some 65 mph around here and although the limit for the most part is 55, 70+ is more the norm. Took a small trip on the bike two up to Johnstown Pa, and had no problems. As far as resale not an issue, but I do get a wild hair once in a while and start lookin' at other bikes (can't help it).

I hear ya. Rebls. The reason I asked about your pipes? I too have 2.5's. Down here in the valley I didn't have to rejet. But, I found that I was running a little on the lean side. I put a K&n air filter on and had to. What a difference! I rejetted and retuned about 4 different ways. Stock jet is O.K. Rejet and K&N, Hoowee. Totally different responce and performance. Zero backfire. Half again the power out of the hole. The only bitch is getting the carb set right. I can thump along all day long, luging it, and in a flash go to bad ass. I lost about 5 mile per gallon on top end. I can live w/ that. It's all in the color of the plug. Once you find the sweet spot. you've got it. I tuned my last bike. a 750 shadow the same way. The 1300 is easy in comparison. Been running it that way for 5 grand. I've got 7800 on the retro. I also took the smog device off. There is a link on the other board to do it.Simple if you aren't all thumbs. No offense intended. I'm an old wrench. Gettin on towards geezerism. Cost is about a bill for the rejet kit. about 20 bucks for the plates on the smog devise. I noticed that removing the smog device made a little difference in the smoothness factor, but not much. If uncle sugar is a factor in Slower Delaware, you might not want to. K&n is about 75.00. If you do it, you will never go back, No matter what 04 Silver VTX says. LOL. You know, on the other board.I used to hang out there, but I'm a little too apolitical for my own good. I also would rather ride than goosestep. Just me. That Bike has a lot of untapped power in it. It'll bring the same price or more tricked out a little or not. For me woohoo. JMO Take care. By the way I'll be up in you're nieghborhood at the end of the month. Gonna take a little 1000 mile trip to see my old Buds. Holler if you want to see what is what. Lincoln DEL. ain't that big. lol. I've got to stop into Hartley and Marydel anyway. Greg....

I have no plans of getting a new bike till this one is falling apart. This is my first bike so it is special in that way also, but I just love the feel and ride. I have sat on several bikes since getting the X and none feel nearly as nice.

Howdy Big X. I've owned 2 Snorten Nortens, a 650 BSA, a 500 Yamaha, A 250 gas oil mix street Yamaha, a 750 twin triumph, a 750 triple triumph, a 90 Honda, a 450 CL Honda, a 750 shadow deluxe, and my current 1300 Retro. I've ridden many Harley's Susy Q's, I really liked the 380 triple, I've even ridden a vincent black shaow. Bmw's, smooth bike, You might can tell I loves bikes. That 1300 is just about the best all round bike I've experienced. Loved nortens, but curses on Joe lucas, the electrical father of darkness. All bikes have they're bad points. I think the VTX line is about the most user friendly and dependable I've ever seen. I'm goonna ride it till they take my license. Then I'm going to give it to my son. Take care. You picked a winner. I got what I want. When I look at other bikes it is to see how they lack compared to mine.

Well I have had more than my share of bikes, as some say. If I get the desire to trade I just make some changes on the bike to make it different. The x is the only bike/s I have had that I have felt this way. I too get the urge to trade or add. Ihad the 1300 retro and after a year wanted to do something different so I added a 1800c(now interstate) to the stall. Spring has sprung here(just finished interstate project) and getting the urge to do something different. I like my x's too much to trade one so I am looking at maybe a new project for the 1300 retro. Thinking along the line of a low long ride. It will take a while for me to make up my mind what I want to do but thats a lot of fun to.

NO plans to abandon my X at any time. Too much blood, sweat, tears and money in her at this juncture! Not sure about additional rides...mama does NOT approve...so I may direct my motoring passions elsewhere. (((Recently plowed a small fortune into upgrading my RV and F-150 so the wallet is MUCH thinner)))

Plan on keeping by 1300 R for quite some time. Yeh, the itch is out there with anyone that's a motorhead like me. But I've ridden other bikes (V-star, Shadow, Magna, sportbikes) and just keep thinking I'll never find one that I love as much as my X. Handling, power and looks are great right out of the box, and you can make modify them so much and make them into whatever you want to. Only way I would get rid of this one is if it was either crashed or I was going to buy another way down the road if this one wears out.

I have a friend who rides a Kaw Vulcan 1500. He went down last Thursday and broke his collarbone a few ribs and punctured a lung. He asked me to go get his bike from where they towed it to and ride it to his house for him. He said he thought it just had cosmetic dammage and it should be ok to ride.

His wife picked me up after work and took me to the bike. I looked it over and determined that it was safe to ride. This was the first time I had ridden his bike so I was taking it real easy and slowly getting used to the feel. As I got 'out of town' and started leaning more into the turns, I noticed a scrapping (how do you define a sound) or vibrating coming from the front. It felt like when your brake pads on the car need to be replaced and you can feel it. When I straightened up, it went away. This happened leaning right and left at about the same angle. Could be a bearing going bad as well. I told him about it and urged him to get it looked at before he does any serious riding. Obviously, after he fully recovers - 4-6 weeks from now.

There were many things about the bike that were just not comfortable. Pipe vibration was my biggest complaint.

He was fairly comfortable when I saw him and thankful that he had his bike back in the garage.

I was real happy to get back on my COMFORTABLE VTX.

I have no plans on replacing my bike unless I absoultely have to.

How old is 'too old'?

That's a pretty cool motorized wheel chair.

My buddy keeps buggin' me about getting a Gold Wing. I keep telling him that I'm not old enough. (We don't need no stinkin' air bags) LOL

To old is when you can not hold the bike on 2 wheels safely. I agree with ********* I to will convert to 3 wheels when the time comes.
