Great shield, the largest they make at this time. "Classic" cruiser big shield look. Provides excellent wind/weather protection and still provides great air circulation behind the shield. No buffetting issues. I'm 6'3" and can comfortably look over the top of the shield with the stock seat. High quality shield (made from acrylic), good mounting hardware. Can remove in under 2 minutes with the 4 set bolts, which does require an allen wrench. Pretty easy install.

Careful when you choose this or any other shield; different shields can limit/inhibit future mods such as adding on lightbars, bullet light mount kits, etc.

I agree. Actually I was trying to figure who to keep mine with my new chrome forks/trees, it looks like I'm gonna polish all the brackets to shine to match the trees so I can keep this windshield.

Great write up.

I have the fat 21 on my 1300R, I like it, bit I get a lot of buffetting from under neath my chin, I had to get a fillet for the undreside of my chin fro my helmet. Naother thing I did with my 21, is I modified the mounts to raise it 5 inches. Now I have a high shield, and I get no head flutter, even at 110 mph, I put a fillet in to cover the whole over the headlight.

I'll not be going back to the stock height. I'll post pics as soon.:patriot:
Gotta get my camera fixed.

I have a Memphis shield as well but, check that your shield height is right. When sitting on the bike, it should be about level with the tip of your nose. Measure from the ground up and back down to the headlight to get the right height shield. The buffeting from underneath can be fixed with a set of lowers. Any other buffeting can be fixed by tilting the shield forward and away from you. There is room in the brackets to do that.
If you buy a too tall shield and are looking through it, the very first time you are riding home at night in a misty rain, you will regret it if you survive the ride at all. A misty shield with headlights coming at you equals no forward sight at all. If you are on an unmarked back road you are SOL. Very scary. I had a NC shield that was too tall and that happened. Thank god my wife was on the back and above the shield and could tell me where I was going. I cut 3" off the shield the next morning.

I use the 21, black on bottom, love it, and like the way the black part hides my cables.

Blackbird, sorry for being a bit slow. What's a fillet? I assume that we're not talking fish here. I have a NC 21" and get some buffeting. I assumed that it was due to the wind coming up and over and then hitting the back of my head. However, there is a gap between the headlight and bottom of the shield. (about 4 inches) Is that enough to give me the buffeting effect? My neck muscles always feel sore now.

Try this if you feel safe doing it. When going down the road raise both your legs up and against your gas tank, see if that stops it, if so then lowers should solve your problem. If you can't do that place your arm out in front if your belly and see if you feel alot of air coming up (on mine it's like from a blower0 and again if so that is your problem.

The air is coming around and up over and around the tank and up into the bottom of your helmet.

I too want to keep the low profile of my C and I have a big sport shield on mine: Memphis Shades Big Shot (MEP 5721 Large Sport). I have taken the bags and crash bars off of my C to get that sporty look, but I like the look of the windshield. Going to start trying to customize it now to keep the sporty look. I'll have to update my pictures when I get done.

Just a quick question. I also have a fats 21 and would like to install an aftermarket light bar. I've been looking at the Cobra w/ 4 1/2 spots. Does any one know if it will work with my winshield w/o mods or with minor mods to the mount.
Thanks to all,

I have a "FATS" (It is huge) also and I am wanting to get rid of it. I want something smaller and I hear you can go to a smaller one that is more forward and angled differently and will work as well. Does anyone have a sugestion? I hear the Pop Top works well.

What is buffeting?

It,s when you are cruising down the road and it feels like somebody is slapping you upside the head in all different directions. It will wear you out!

I've got the 21" Fat on my X. Putting on the lowers really helped with leftover buffeting. On longer rides, especially at higher speeds, this really helps.

On another VTX board, I read a great explanation on why this happens...

On any "Cruzer" bike, your legs are usually angling forward to the pegs or boards; feet forward of your head (helmet). Wind coming from the front, will deflect up your legs and towards your body -- taking a curve around the lower portion of the gas tank. So, regardless of how large your upper shield may be, you're always going to be getting a substantial amount of "up-draft" coming up towards your upper body and head. Adding lowers will help deflect that wind away from your lower legs and thus reduce that "up-draft".

Conversely, if you were on a "Sport bike" with your head (helmet) forward of your feet (i.e., rider pegs back from your head), the wind will deflect down your legs.

I also has the 21" mamphis shield, but I am 6'5" and I wish the shield was a little taller. It buffets the top of my helmit, the bugs seem to hit me where my sum glasses do not cover.

You might want to consider having your seat modified to lower you a couple of inches. There is a guy who does this for a very reasonable fee. And, the lowering aside, I read lots of testimonials that his seat mod to the foam makes the seat more comfortable.

I replaced the seat when I first purchased the bike. I have a mustang seat which lowered it a couple of inches. I don't think I can go any lower and still have a good ride.

I searched :)

Im pretty short (5'6"), my wife is shorter (5'), Ultimate X seat. (No, we're not midgets LOL). Right now Ive got a Wind Vest (I think 14" ?) and it sits RIGHT about at my nose. After about an hour I start slouching and it's a pain coz its right in line of sight. Anyway. It's fine for short rides.

With wife riding bitch, she says wind isnt too bad (I find that hard to believe) and I think maybe a 2up is in order. Has anyone trying putting rain X on their shield to deflect?

DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....Rain-X will ruin your windshield!!!!!!.....It reacts with the acrylic, and will ruin it.....
