:coffee: Greetings!
I haven't seen any members from this area yet but I have seen some bikes in my area, which is Parsons, TN 100 miles west of Nashville. I have had my 05R for about 3 months and have rode enough to know that It is really a fun bike. I am a 50 year old married male with MEd. If there is anyone in this area, feel free to respond. It always helps to have some kind of idea who the riders are out there. Why saxman50? I have played the sax most of my life. I can't post any pics, yet(I don't think) I'm new to this forum and not really sure how it all works but there is a ton of info about the VTX if you look around.

Have a great day!

Hey Sax,
Welcome I am not from your area but I do have a friend that pastors in your area. He is a very talented singer, songwriter, and musician. You may have heard of him, his name is J. Michael Wilson. He pastors Iron Hill Pentecostal Church. You have one of the best bikes on the road. Here's to riding.

Hello Saxman. I'm about 30 miles southeast of Nashville. That's close enough we could meet somewhere in the middle and go from there.

Hey guys,
Thanks for your replies. Yeah, Murfreesboro is only about 2 hrs from me. I haven't made a ride that far just yet cause I just got the bike, but plan to. I need to get some saddlebags, at least, and appropriate clothing. I have been checking out the Honda Hoot online. Anybody ever been to that?
Also, I am not familiar with Pastor Wilson but know where his church is located. I might know who he is if I saw him.
Again, thanks for your replies and have a great day!

Hello Ripley!
Yeah, you're not far away. About an hour or so from Jackson? How long have you been riding? I got my 05R in August and got some road time but Winter got here way too fast. I live in a rural area so there are some good old state highways and "backroads" to cruise around on. You probably have some of that around the Miss river and toward Dyersburg. I bet your have been to Union City, that's where I picked up by bike, at Abernathy's Cycle. David, out in the preowned area, helped me with my purchase. Nice guy. I go to Bob's, in Jackson, for some stuff and they are friendly, too. Any cycle shops in Ripley? Not here, but a few guys that have had bikes for years and know their way around. I can tinker a bit myself. Get back...

Hey Ripley, I lived in New Albany for about 7 years. I love that part of the country. Used to go to 1st Monday a good bit. My mother-in-law is from Hatchie Hills. Well maybe we can hook up and ride sometime. By the way do you know Bro Joe Street?

Hey guys!
What's the name of the best Honda/Cycle shop in your area? I got my bike in Union City at Abernathy's but I go to Bob's in Jackson for "stuff". Toast, that is one great lookin bike. Beautiful Blue! I haven't had my 05 long enough to invest more in it, but I will. Thanks for your post, I think that with the cafe and local riders, there's one heckuva support group available to us.
I was born in Memphis at the old Baptist Hospital on Union. My folks worked at the Sears crosstown. Moved to Parsons in 62.
Hear of any good events/rallies, I might be interested. I haven't ventured very far yet.
Stay safe!

Hello saxman50..I bought my vtx a couple of weeks ago. I was hoping there were other riders in and around Lexington. I look forward to getting together with the group to ride sometime in the near future. I think I will go to the groups section and join the West TN Riders. I was wondering how to join the Tennessee Riders Group. I did not see that particular group in the social groups section.

Yeah, good to hear from you! I live in Parsons and have had my bike since October. We can definitely get together sometime. Sundays are probably the best day for me.

You must have come through Brownsville then. 70 up to Paris Landing is a nice ride I take occasionaly. You should ride all the roads that take you through all the small towns in northwest TN. It is a great way to spend a day riding.

True statement...especially this time of the year when the corn and cotton are high. I like the smell of cotton blooming, some people dont care for it. I am planning a ride to Shiloh in a few weeks. Going to visit the Vet cemetary there.:patriot:

Anyone interested in riding to the Shiloh let me know. I will see what kind of interest and try and pin down a date. Below is a map from Bartlett to Shiloh, you can guesstimate your distance. When I get consensus of riders I will try and fine a central meeting place.

A suggestion: Turn south on Hwy 196 off Hwy 64 E and go south to Piperton. Then get on Hwy 57 E all the way to Hwy 22 N which will take you straight into Shiloh. Also you are right at Pickwick Lake. This route takes you some very nice small towns with a rich War Beteween The States history and some nice plantation estates still intact. A very scenic and pleasant ride. And Shiloh is a trip in itself. Two bloody days in April 1862 with more than 25000 killed on each side. And equal numbers wounded. If you love history in general and the WBTS in particular ( me on both counts) this is a good ride, both in the getting there and as a destination.

Feel welcome and also welcome to the cafe.
I rode down to Memphis today for lunch. I ate at Dyers Hamburgers on Beale St. I heard about them on the Food Network Channel. They claim to still cook with the same grease (filtered every day) that was used when the place was established in 1912. And they deep fry the hamburger pattie(s) instead of grilling or griddleing them. I like exploring Memphis on the bike. I admit I have gotten into some neighborhoods that I may have gotten out of safely only by the grace of God. :)

I try to stay away from Memphis just because you can get into some bad areas very quickly. I go where I need to then back. They do bikes on Beale every Wednesday and I have yet to go. I usually go to Joe's Crab Shack for bike night.
Keep me informed of the ride to Shiloh . Sound like a fun ride.

I understand that, but I enjoy the exploring too much. On the positive side, I have seen some beautiful homes and some historic places that I would not have ever gone and found without the bike. I am always "aware" of my surroundings and looking for an exit if I get a bad feeling about an area. I generally do not carry a firearm even though I could. I do have a good friend who is a Colonel with MPD and asked him at Church this morning about MPD's policy of other agency LEO's (me) carrying in Memphis. He was emphatic that I should. Hate to have change the way I dress to ride to accomodate that though. None of this will be a problem with a Shiloh ride.

"I admit I have gotten into some neighborhoods that I may have gotten out of safely only by the grace of God. :)"

That is every neighborhood a few blocks off of Beale. But Beale Street is worth the trip. I was in that area on Saturday, there is a new cigar lounge on 2nd Street (www.havanamix.com (http://www.havanamix.com)) . Great place if you are a cigar smoker. Comfortable chairs, good selection in the humidor and there is a Cuban guy who rolls the house brand on the weekends. I tried the house brand and was actually really good.

That ride was Senior Chief's idea originally. Don't want to hijack his idea. It would be good ride from Memphis especially on that southern route I suggested.
And Shiloh is right in Bownutrob's (above) back door.

But if anyone ever has time for a ride and wants to ride with someone, shoot me a PM. I can ride any day of the week, but not the same days every week. It just depends on the week. I work two days on / two days off so it rotates every week. And every other weekend off. I have all kinds of rides I take if you don't have anything in mind. The max has been 411 miles and four states in one day for a pleasure ride and not a vacation trip. But usually I get in at least 150 miles on a pleasure ride.

As the saying go "life happens" and what I thought was a free weekend will now be spent on the soccer field. With all the rain we have had in the past few weeks all of my son's game were rained out. So this Saturday will be a make up day. Since I coach the team it is a good idea if I show up. So maybe another day.
