I want to connect an LED light bar (5 LEDs) under the tank to light up my engine, but I don't know which wires (and colors of wires) to splice into.
Any help is appreciated!

I just ran a hot off the batt into a fuse and then to a switch. This way you can leave it on when the bike is off.

Thanks!!

On the right side of the bike under the side panel I found the battery connections just behind the fuse box. I connected my lights there, with a fuse and a switch. Everything works fine. Now I need more LEDs!

I used the old bracket from my PAIR system to mount a switch. Hell, it wasn't holding the PAIR system anymore, so why not? I took the bracket and bent it around a bit to make a flat surface where i wanted my switch, then drilled the requisite size hole for it and slid it in. I like the switch placement because it's COMPLETELY out of sight from any angle (except maybe laying under the bike) yet irs really easy to reach, and it's positioned so I don't risk burning the crap out of my hands on the engine. Recycling is a good thing. =)

Here is something you may want to try when wiring in LED'S.
Since the led's don't use much power and you need to isolate then from the main wiring of the bike (just in case). Tap into the tail light wire near the fuse block. This will be used as a trigger for a 10 amp micro relay. Key on-power to tail light/power to relay. Be sure to install a 10 amp inline fuse also.
Connect your light switch or controller to the relay then to your lights.
What I have on the 1300 are Lizard lights, 3 sets under the tank and 1 set over the radiator. The controller in mounted just in front of the fuel petcock. The reason I went with the lizards instead of regular led's (as in the past) is that they will change to 7 different colors and can be adjusted to a variable strobe rate or on solid with just a twist of the knob.
Isolating your wiring is a golden rule for me, even on the wing everything is seperate from the main bike wiring so I'm not left out somewhere if a light or other accessory decides to go south, i can always make it home.

Good Luck.

Show Chrome Accessories also makes a switch block with three switches in it that mounts on top of your brake reservoir. The three switches can be used for anything, LED lights, Light Bars, etc. They come in chrome and black finish as well as for the left or right side if you have an 1800 with hydraulic clutch.

Thats how my husband did his 1800R. He did them in blue. A cop hassled him him about his blue lights( mine u, his bike was parked while we were at one of our hang-outs). The cop actually brought out his manual & showed us the statute for the violation. No blue or red lights.

I ran a hot wire from the battery into the seat pan. Connected to remote switch from e-bay. Ground wire to frame. Other side of switch to LED's and presto remote control lights. I can turn the lights on and off from 100' away

The reomote lights sound pretty cool. Where can I get the LED's from? What are some good ones to get? Also, how are you mounting the LED's...zip ties?

Wow that was an old thread. I got my lights from Joe Florida on e-bay. They come wired into a harness kinda like christmas light strands. He also had the remote switch. I think I paid around a hundred bucks for the setup.

Get some 3M double-sided tape from Autozone....Same stuff they use to hold emblems on cars, trucks, bikes, etc...

I have mine on a remote. You can go to the autoparts store and get the switch. It is in the area with fog lights. Alot of cars use them to eliminate wiring the fog lights. only cost $20.00
