In helping keep the forums a little cleaner and better organized I was thinking of adding usergroups for each state and members could join the state(s) of their choice.
The advantage? When you log on and the state forums are active you don't have to sort thru all the different state information, you only see post from the state you have joined. You can still read any state forum you like but they will not show up when you check new post.
Opinions on this. It will be alot of work to set up all the user groups and then set the permissions for each for so what do you think?

It really doesn't matter to me the only thing is I just got used to the way this works. But I'm a quick learner. So I'm happy with whatever you decide. Thanks for all your hard work!

Doesnt matter to me either. I like the way it is now but any improvements are appreciated. I also would like to thank you for all the hard work. Just hope more X riders find out about the site.

Looks good so far to me. Also, like the others have said, THANK you for all the hard work. The site looks great!!

Cool thanks for the comments so far. I know it's not an issue right now but I'm sure you know how it is on real busy boards sorting trough a bunch of state chat that you really don't care about..lol.
I still need to get the weather function working right so off to work on that.

They have state groups on the VTXOA site and I find that I only go to the NC group. I have friends all over and often miss their posts. When Xtremecruisers was up and running well, we used a 'Back Lot' group for all the general prat and when there were specific issues, we went to 1300 tech or 1800 tech. That seemed to work well. Alot of folks don't post, they just read. Just my $.10 (inflation).

I personally don't see a need for all that work. I can scroll through the states and if the ones I am interested in are flashing then I stop and read. That seems very simple to me. Maybe I'm just simple minded.

I don't think I'd bother with state usergroups. I find everything state-related that I want from the local clubs.

Big-X (fellow Charlottean!) you have my compliments on a very user-friendly site. I am impressed by its relative ease of navigation. Although I am (brand) new on this forum, I am never short on opinions, so will offer mine on this issue. I enjoy reading about what other people in other places are doing and would not benefit personally from having NC sequestered in its own usergroup. If something involves more work (read less time to ride) it had better be important! Cheers, Jul

Save yourself the time and work until enough users request a change that benefits both site and user. Great job on the site, it's very user friendly. Had I not found a site like vtxcafe.com, I probably would have started one just like it.

add usergroups???...not yet...but am sure as the volume continues to increase this will be an issue....is there a better sorting parameter out there other than segmented (by states, etc) ???....maybe a linear sort by time with time partitions....would kill any kind of continuity but at least would allow us to see what "all" are discussing (as in a per state set-up)
Do not have an answer but just wanted to throw out a question or two and also to state that I have thorougly enjoyed the site and reaped many benefits from the discussions and pictures so far...my thanks to Big-X and all members
Yes-no no-yes too many choices for me; you decide. I can live with it. Isn't this why they pay you the big bucks? :-)

Each state already has groups I wouldn't do it.

State sites would be cool...give us TexasXriders a place to go when www.texasxriders.com crashes
Which ever you choose Big,I think this work great the way it is. I am sure keeping this running as smooth as it does is enuff work in it self to keep you busy.

As WildChildJul said, Big-X my compliments to you for undertaking the very difficult and time consuming work of maintaining a very user-friendly site. I also am impressed by its ease of navigation. Although I am also brand new on this forum, I have a unique opinion about portals and knowledge aggregation. I will offer mine on this issue, ignore it or use it, either way I will keep coming back to visit and support it.
As a Network Lab Engineer for Microsoft Corp. I had the task of working on development of their first and second version industrial strength portal solution, SharePoint Portal Server. Increasing the intrinsic hierarchical structure you add scale and more granular dimensional control, but you also dramatically increase administrative overhead. Managing a fully deployed, fully utilized SPSv2 portal (say with4-10000 users) requires a full time admin.
I enjoy reading about what other people in other places are doing and would not benefit personally from having northwest, specifically Puyallup, WA owners sequestered in its own user group, but wont mind either way if it happens. The only time I would care will be if your work on the forum costs you ride time!

Lol, it does but that's life. Lucky I get to work on it some when I'm at work.
