I've got an 05 1300R and I'm looking for suggestions for new pipes. I want a little louder than than the stock pipes but I'm not looking to annoy the entire neighborhood and surrounding countryside, just part of it. I can't even hear them now when I'm cruising down the hiway. A nice low rumble would be nice. I also like the look of the long stock pipes it seems to help maintain the retro look. Any ideas? Thanks.

If you want to keep the stock pipes for their look, you can do a Clayton Root mod or go as far as having them modified by Sturgis Thunder Pipes Works. But, I'd only do these mods. if you don't plan to change the airbox at all. If you go to a high flow airbox kit, then you'll most likely need to switch to an aftermarket pipe set-up. I'm with DAR on the R/S models--Hard Krome 3" Big Straights. That's what I have and I love them. But, be warned, they are loud.

You may have to tip-toe around the neighborhood but the Big-Three's would be my choice for a R/S model hands down. I've seen nothing that compares to there looks on a R/S model. :D http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n248/dbjhundley1/th_DSC00757.jpg (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n248/dbjhundley1/DSC00757.jpg)

Well so far it seems to be unanimous. They do maintain the look, don't they. I've read about the Clayton Root mod and may do that before I purchase anything new. If i don't like the sound then I can still go with new pipes.
Thanks

Well below is what the 3" bigs look like on a retro (mine is a 1800), I added the Thunder Monster baffles to quiet mine down some. Above in the exhaust sound section I have some sound files of them.

My first post. I did the Clayton Root mod today on my 2004, 1300C and was really surprised with both the sound and the apparent throttle response. I have the stock carb and filter. Really satisfied. My wife was washing her hair in the bathroom and heard me return home after the maiden voyage. The bathroom is in the middle of the house with no window to the outdoors. She came to the garage and asked if I could get any louder. I don't think she was as pleased as I. I ride with the RED KNIGHTS here in town and will surprise alot of the Harley Boys. Thanks for the tech. tips

A lot of people like the big 3, but i had the 2 1/2 american classics from hard krome. The baffles are not removeable and the sound is great. Combine that with a good hypercharger such as the pro r from kiriakin and you cant go wrong. Not only will you have increased hp but your lower end trq. will go up as well.

I have Cobra Speedster longs and while they are louder, I haven't gotten any complaints from the neighbors yet. I can also still talk to my passenger when we're going down the road too.

You could also try V&H bigshots either loud or louder. If you are going to Mount lemon this Sunday you will be able to see and hear many exhausts, it may help you make up your mind, just a thought.
