Ron Dob here. I work for Wachovia Bank in Winston Salem, NC. I live in Lexington, NC. I rode alot in the 70's on my 1971 Yamaha 650. Then had kids, etc. Sold the bike(s).
Now, kids are grown and gone as well as the wife (not grown, just GONE).
Bought my fast black VTX 1300S from HDL online in Dec of 2002. Took delivery in January 2003, Put Lindby Custom highway bars, National Cycle hard bags and the Honda windshield and lightbar on her before I rolled her out of the basement in March 2003 for my first ride. (Paperwork snafu).
Since then I have added: Honda Deluxe backrest, Ultimate 4 piece seats, Robert Wilson custom type 2 tank bib, National fender tips, spotlight visors, 4" Aeromach risers, Claton Root exhaust mod, Aerostich handlebar clock, Clear brake & signal light lenses, White Walls, K&N filter and over 20,000 miles.

I'm Stephen West and I just moved to Cape Coral Florida the last of June. I sold my remodeling business just before moving down. Haven't decided what to do just yet but I'll probably do some work on our new house before I look for something to do. I've got a black '03 1300S "Naomi" I've got a little over 20k and she has been just beautiful ever since I picked her up. I brought from HDL in N Miami and rode back to Atlanta where I just moved from. I've got the Ultimate set with backrest (my best investment) and Pillion, Roadhouse 2-1 pipes (love the sound and the little extra torque), phat risers, small National wind deflector shield and K-drive bags. I started riding at 14 (I'm just a little older now) and have loved it ever since. My wife says it's the only thing that I really like to do :nono: and I tell her it's amazing how she is always right :bleh:
Hi everyone, I'm Tom. I came here after Ray showed me his new project in the works. I see it's up and open to the public and I thought I'd register here and help out where I can. I'm a skateboarder living in Ontario canada right now. I'll be popping in here as much as I can, hopefully learn a ton from you guys about bikes. My uncle's got his beautiful 2004 BMW R 1100 S parked in my garage at the moment actually, I love that bike. It's sooo nice ^_^
Anyways, I'll see you gusy around!

Hello fellow X-er's. Steve here. I got back into riding after a 30 year absence. As a 20 year veteran firefighter/paramedic, I hesitated every time I wanted a new bike because of all the bikers I had scraped up off the road over the years. When I saw my first VTX, I instantly fell in love with it and had to have one. (I also realized that most of the motorcycle fatalities that I have seen over the years fell into two categories... 1. Kids on crotch-rockets and 2. Harley guys without helmets.) We all take chances on our bikes in dealing with the crazy drivers, but I've discovered that the risk is well worth living life to the fullest. Here's wishing you all safe roads ahead and plenty of quality time aboard your X's. Later Brothers

Thanks for giving me a "heads" up on this.

Good morning all,
My name is Rick and I work at an Hydraulics Company in Tucker, Ga.
I bought my VTX1800C in October of 2002. It is an illusion red and it has taken me to places like Sturgis and down the Blue Ridge Parkway.
I enjoy the heck out of this well powered, quick and responsive bike.
I'll be checking in and out during the week as I keep my email's up all the time for business purposes (and of course, I get to mix a little pleasure in here and there as well).
Thanks,
Rick

Good morning everyone:
My name is Charles, just go an email on this site this morning. It's great and good work on the layout. I have my first new bike ever and the only the 2nd I've ever owned. The first was an early 80's model KZ650, but cruisers is all I was interested in. Got my 1300r last month. I almost made the mistake of buying the Bulivard 50 but everyone said it would be too small. With my frame they were right. My only regret is that I didn't get the 1800. I'll stick with it until the extended warranty runs out. Lets see 4 weeks 3000 miles already times 5 years...makes my butt sore.

Hope to meet & make some great X'r friend's here. Let's Ride Out!!!!!! :choppersm

I been looking at them since they originally came out and they were a huge head turner for me. I have ridden sport bikes and different cruisers but this is the best overall bike I have ever owned. We have since made bike trips to Fredericksburg, TX, Branson, Mo. along with several bike rallys. My girlfriend usually rides with me and she loves it as well!

Hi folks! My name is Jim and I just joined up to this site and am impressed. Looks like fun. I recently got back on motorcycles after getting the last child out of the house. Last bike I had was an early 80's Silver Wing which I totaled after hitting a dog at 60 MPH. I walked away, but the boss (wife) said she wasn't raising the kids on her own. Now, with her blessing, I just purchased the 2005 VTX 1800F. It's a great bike and I'm enjoying it every chance I get.

HI, Jamie from South Carolina near Rock Hilll. I have been riding on two wheels since 5 on my beloved Honda 50. Bought a Honda 350 at age 15 and have been on the road ever since. Owned Harley, Kawi and still Kawi, but always come back to Red. I have a VTX1800C 2003, CBR600RR. Enjoy riding especially with wife and 16 year old son who rides a Ninja 250. Training right and train them early. Son has raced MX since 6, but is now coming to love the open road. Mother bites her nails, but enjoys riding. Great site and some really sweet rides posted here. Nothing special about mine a few extras nothing to brag about except getting rid of the factory can for some 2" cobra's that may be getting swapped out soon. Any suggestions? All are welcome. Just got back from a week long ride to Savannah, met friends and rode in all directions from there. Great fun.

I wish I'd started riding sooner. I live in Deer Park, Texas a community about 15 miles East of Houston. I am looking forward to adding a few extra's to the bike. Except for the sissy bar, the bike is the stock Candy Red. I will be looking to add a windshield and some type of luggage (T-Bags or saddle). I don't really know if there is any advantage of one over the other. Any suggestions on that or the windshield would be appreciated. I've heard from some that there is difficulty with adding a light bar with some brands of windshields.
Anyway, I need to go ride a while. It is Saturday afternoon and I hear Galveston calling....

Pat,
The best windshield for the VTX is the Honda windshield. It costs a little more than some, but it has a better shape. The lightbar is 'part' of this windshield and well worth the $$. You will read many posts re: head buffetting, etc. The cure is adding lower deflectors. You will not need to do this with the Honda shield, it is already lower that the rest. It also has a little foward flair at the top to move the wind higher over your head.
Look at some bikes that already have shields on them. Compare. Look at them from the side and see the flat vs. curved shape I'm talking about.
One of the guys I ride with (BlkXride) said to me one day, "I've been looking at all you guys in front of me and your Tshirt is hardly blowing". There were 5 of us riding through the beautiful SC mountains. He was fifth in line and I was 4th. I was the only rider with the Honda windshield.
Most of the bags are good. I would stay away from the ones you throw over the fender. You can't take them off without taking off the passenger seat.

Nice looking bike, Hammer. I agree with the windshield. I put the Honda on mine for the same reasons. With as much riding as I've done at night already I wish I would have gone with the light bar. That and the highway bar will be next.

Hey all,
VTX18R here. Greetings from Pittsburg Kansas (30 miles from Joplin Missouri). At 53, I have been riding since I was 17. Have had my 1800VTX since last October and LOVE IT! Have made some changes cosmetically such as Sampson Cannons, risers and National quick release windshield. Last week was in Cassody Kansas for the monthly rally. I am sure many of you know about it. From March to Novermber the first Sunday of the month they gather there. Bikes from all over. All makes of bikes..and all varieties of people too. Just a small town with the only paved road being the hiway that runs thru it. Make a long story short..while I was there saw an aftermarket seat made by ULTIMATE in Canada. It is the most comfortable seat I ever sat on...check it out...http://www.ultimateseats.ca/ ... anyway,,I ordered one the very next day. Can't wait to get it. For those of you in my neck of the woods, feel free to write me and we'll get together as I am NOT a fair weather rider and enjoy getting in the wind all year round.

Hello gang! Just got here and wanted to say that. I ride a 2004 VTX1300C in candy red. My last ride was 210 miles through the White Mountains on a picture perfect day. I work for FedEx to pay for the toys and to give my throttle wrist a break. I bought my VTX to slow down a little. My previous bike was a Yamaha FZ1. Thought it would be nice to see the kids graduate, so I gave it up.

Hello. My name is Paul Cornish and I am a newbie!
I live in Independence, MO (KC Metro area)
I am currently saving up for either a 1300C or 1800C.
The Air Force is sending me to Maryland for four months so I will delay my purchase until I get back but this site is great and has been extremely useful for me. I will finish my MBA in June of next year and this will be my present to myself. :D
Points I have drawn already from the "wisdom pool"

Hi all. My name is Clo and I don't see any other females so far, but just started looking around the cafe. My husband & I each have a 1300C - we catch a great deal of crap because they are identical...... We bought them in April this year & have over 9,000 miles on them now. We live in North Central Kansas and rode the bikes to Calif this summer. Had a great trip. Jerry works at a brick plant and I'm a dispatcher for a computer repair shop. We both had bikes when we married 31 years ago, got rid of them during the "raising kid" years, and got back into riding last year with a Rocky Mountain trip for our 30th anniversary. We absolutely love riding. Last year we took the trip on a pair of Honda 600 VLX - but traded up to the 1300's this spring. We've found our bikes!! We've done a little customizing, but hope to do more this winter.
If you see a pair of red VTX's on the road - wave - it's probably us!!!
Thanks for having a VTX site - gotta go check it out some more!

Hello, everyone. I'm Ron Lyster. I ride a "magenta" 2004 1800 "Neo-Retro." I've been riding motorcycles since 1965 when I turned 15 (I got my learner's permit and on that same day I went to the local Bridgestone rental shop and rented a Bridgestone 90.) Since then I've riden an AJS, a Triumph, a Benelli, a Harley, and now - the best yet. In 1991 I helped form the International Fellowship of Motorcycling Rotarians, and continue to ride with that group. (We have chapters all over the world now.) I am very happily married and live in Santa Monica, California. We have two children - one of whom is out of college and one of whom is starting college at Emory in Atlanta, Georgia, in two weeks.
My wife does not ride, and so I try to limit myself to an occasional longer (at least 3-day) ride. Went to Tombstone back in April, then up Route 66 to Chicago in June. The weekend after Labor Day I'll be riding up to Yosemite.
I've always liked to fiddle with the bike's performance, but I've tried my best to control my urge with the VTX. I want to enjoy Honda's famous reliability. But we'll see... My days of loud exhaust pipes are also over.
Great to be here. Looking forward to seeing everyone's postings here.

My name is Keith Ellmaker. I am a tech Support Engineer with the phone company and am retired from the Navy. I bought my 2003 VTX 1800R last summer. Here in Washington you have to get used to riding in the rain. Love the bike. Lots of power to spare. Have done some day rides but haven't had time to do any long touring. Look forward to that soon.

I worked at a Sears auto center for a couple years in a former life. We replaced more batteries the first hot day of the summer than we did the first cold day of winter. The heat will show a bad battery faster than anything. Get a cheap hydrometer. It will show a bad cell very easily.

Hi, all you smart vtx owners.
I may be one of the oldest members here (never thought I'd say that!).
I 'm 62.
Got the bike fever after a 30-yr layoff. Raced motorcross some in the early 70's then quit so the kids would still have a live father.
Just bought my VTX 1300 Retro last month, and think I made a good decision. Couldn't find a better bike for the money, not to mention the unique head-turning looks it gets.
I loved my Yahama V Star, and put almost everything available on it, but it just didn't get it on the highway, so talked my wife into letting me get a bigger bike (and increasing my chore responsibilities at home, along with a few other promises).
Memphis doesn't offer the best cruising conditions, but I'll make it work.
I added iso grips, a Memphis Shades windshield, and a new-to-the-market solo luggage rack that follows the curve of the rear fender, with angled slots that taper to the back, ending in a point. Very cool. I'll be adding Lindy bars next week, and bought a cobra light bar/w lights that I'm debating about. I've already drilled out the great looking pipes and got a fantastic deep rumble that doesn't raise the decible too much.
Looking forward to posting and reading about what you folks are doing.

Got to this site via a link from the other VTX site. Started riding again in 97 after I retired from the Navy. My wife just started riding last year. We usually make at least two weekly trips a year and I ride year round. Got 21K on this one since I got it. Belong to two clubs and ride whenever possible. If it's 32 or higher (call me stupid), I'm out there. Wish I could post some pics, but quess I have to wait to do that.
Keep the rubber down and say Hi if you see fit.....

Hi
I'm Deb, most of my riding buddies < Mass VTX Riders > call me Brat though I don't know why <wink> I'm from Southern MA. I've been riding on and off since I was a kid, but only got back into it about 12 years ago, when I bought a Virago 1100. In March of 03' hubby bought me a 1300 Retro for our 25th anniversary. What a guy huh? :)
after riding that for 2 years, and putting over 8000 miles on it, we found ourselves admiring an 1800 Neo, the next thing I know we are ordering it!
Best decision we made. That was last Nov. and I've since logged 4500 miles. I know I know... not too many miles huh? Well I'm working on it!!
The picture attached is from one of our Tune up rides this past spring. Mine is the Metallic Blue one in the middle.

Hi Gang! I'm Joe Antonucci from Jacksonville, FL. In Jan. this year I sold my 1998 Gold Wing SE and bought a "new" 04 VTX1800 Retro Candy Black Cherry. What a difference in the handling and the ride,...I love it! Am contemplating putting on some Vance Hines Big Shots but need some advice from some of you "Pro's". I know I need the electric injector device to go with the pipes buy not sure which one to get. Didn't know there was such a variety. Any advice would surely be appreciated.

I look forward to conversation with other VTXers

Just found out about this forum. Bought a new 2004 VTX 1300 April 30. Just turned 9000 miles this week. Rode it from the Twin Cities to Somerset PA for America's 911 Ride. Ended up with 3600 miles by the time I got back home. Only issue was that the pipes are higher than my Shadow 750 and the saddle bags hit the pipes. Had to replace them. Other than that, running fine. I'm still walking after two weeks in the saddle.

Hi all, I am new to this sight. I am a 50 year old who after several years of being bike- less, bought a used 2003 1800 VTX-R. This bike had been fixed up some with the addition of a windshield, hard bags, Hard Krome 3" straight pipes and a little bit of chrome accessories. I commute to work on the bike which totals about 121 miles a day. I still have energy to take weekend rides to the mountains or the beach. You might say that I ride the bike all the time.
Too all, be safe and have a great ride!

John here from the Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina (Durham/Raleigh). Just bought my 5th bike, 4th Honda. Only bike I'd really miss up til now was my Nighthawk 650. Went on a 80 mile run last night with some friends (850 miles on the X now) and just really appreciate the balance, power and ride of the bike. I looked at Fatboys and Yamahas and I know I made the right choice!
Interested in day long excursions to the coast or the mountains, so let me know if any NC riders want to get together. Like to go fast on certain roads and lay back when the scenery is good. Me and 2 friends are looking at hitting The Dragon and/or the Blue Ridge Parkway this fall. Maybe we'll see some of you there.
Mod-wise, have only added freeway bars (wife requirement after broken leg in 1996), but plan to add light bar, saddlebags, air intake upgrade, and possibly windshield and exhaust/jet mods, plus chrome on the rear drive components (looks like the powerplant just kinda 'stops' after the tranny, ya know).
Great forum, Ray, thanks for the hard work! See y'all on-line and on the road!

Hello, I'm Rev. Stan Martin and I live in Kempner, Texas. I have been riding for almost 40 years off and on. I just bought a VTX1800N (I really like that hot rod look) to replace the Shadow Areo I was riding. I added a neo retro sissy w/backrest so my wife will ride with me and a Boulevard windshield to help keep the early morning bugs off of my shirt. My son now has the Shadow Areo and we are both very happy. I retired from the U.S. Army in 1995 after 21 years of service. I now teach autisic children at an elementary school in Copperas Cove near Ft. Hood, Texas. I am an officer in the BACA chapter that we are just starting here in Cove. :patriot:

Hal McKoon from Southern California. I ride a 2004 VTX1300R, after a 10 year absence from riding ( rough 10 years). Moved to CA 3 years ago due to job. I miss Tampa, or Florida in general, but the m/c riding in CA is great. I, like many have added a few accessories. Vance & Hines bigshot pipes, Dynojet carb kit, MC tank bib, saddleman saddle bags with holders, Big Bike windshield, LED brake light assy, X cut air breather cover,
cobra passenger floor boards,MC sissy bar. I have the tail and turn signal brake light system to install, but been putting it off, as it cuts into my ride time. I ride everyday to work, regardless of the weather. Great bike.

Hello to all from Oklahoma. My '02 Retro and I have been together since they first came out. Looked at a lot of bikes but none looked as appealing to me as the VTX. Started out looking at the 1300's but went with the 1800 and haven't looked back since. I'm not a Harley person so I went against the grain here where I work at the glass factory in Tulsa (all Harley boys). I'm an Electrician by trade, I've meet some great people here around town that also ride X's. Oh, the name is BlurpleX (Jerry Lakey) and the bike is Illusion Blue, therefore the name. :spank:

A big houdy to the Forum. My name is Michael. I'm just an old geezer in his 2nd childhood. After about 40 years and passing a MSF Basic Rider Safety Course, I bought my first grown up bike in July ’05, a Candy Apple Red 2005 VTX 1300R. I’ve ridden about 1500 miles and really enjoy it and the wind in my face. I should have done this several years ago. I been visiting the forum for a couple of months and finally stopped and took the time to register this evening. Bike picture was made shortly after I brought her home. (Almost seems like she should have a name.) Since, added a Memphis Shade windshield, sissy bar and luggage rack. Hope to spend a lot of time ridding the back roads.
Happy Trails!

a 2003 vtx 1800 retro this past friday...(put a 1000 m. on it since then)...have been off bikes for about 19 years now...rode them as a kid when the h.750 or kaw.900 were considered BIG bikes...man have things changed...this vtx machine is an absolute horse and is drop dead gorgeous...what an unbelievable ride...my wife is extremely excited (and this helps) and we are both looking forward to a lot of 2 up ventures...
now the question....mods: old school or smooth cruiser or big bruiser...the choices with this bike are endless...think i am leaning toward old school...we shall see...will update profile and pics as time permits...is very nice to be on the road again..RIDER UP!!!

JW here, I am a Firefighter/Paramedic; I work in a rural community in southern Oklahoma. I was a motocross racer when I was a teenager and then stopped riding for about 20 years. For the pasted 10 years I've been scraping bikers up off the road and I never thought I would get the motorcycle bug after all the bad bike accidents I've worked. (Excessive speed is always the common denominator) Then a buddy of mine showed me his Illusion blue VTX1800 C. I took it for a test ride and I was immediately converted. The next week I ordered a 2005 candy black cherry VTX 1800 F Spec 1. I gotta tell ya that I hated bolting on all those extra necessities like a windshield, sissybar and saddle bags, because those items just messed up the beautiful streamline features of the bike. But when that 60/MPH 40 degree wind hit me in the face the first time I couldn't get the shield on fast enough, and the spouse won't ride without a sissybar and place to stow her junk. Oh well. Thanks for the great website. Ride Safe!!! :icon_wave

Hi All,
My 2004 VTX 1300S just arrived today from New York. I bought it on eBay. I now wish thay had sent the key with the bike instead of mailing it seperately.
The key arrives tomorrow, so for today I'll have to settle for taking photos of it instead of riding. I've been riding a 83 Aspencade, which now I'll be selling soon. I mostly switched to this cruiser to have a bike that sits lower and is easier to manage. Without reverse my wing is a lot of bike to try and turn around in a crowded driveway or garage. I use to ride a 1100 Shadow before the wing. It's nice to be back on a cruiser. I look forward to learning from some of you what are the best accessories to add on to my VTX.
Many safe rides to all of you.
God Bless,
Bill

:) Hello everyone... I just got my VTX 1300C this summer. It was an upgrade to my ACE 750. I was looking for a bike that would be deluxe on the highway, allowing me to travel in comfort to some rallies in the coming years.
The season is a bit shorter up here (Ottawa), ending sometime in November and not starting again until the show and ice are off the roads, normally in early to mid April.
But that doesn't mean that we don't have the biking spirit... Looking forward to meeting some kindred spirits here.

Greetings, all. I started out with a Suzuki Burgman 400cc scooter which was cool because I didn't have to think about changing gears! Not sure why I had that particular mental block as I drive a standard F-150 and my old V6 Pontiac Fiero was a 5-speed. Nevertheless, I quickly became addicted to the feel of wind and freedom one has on a two-wheeler and bought a Shadow Sabre (black with orange flames, of course) after about nine months. I took the MSF course and highly recommend it. After riding it a little over 10,000 miles in less than a year, I wanted more power!!! The Sabre was so pretty and I had a hard time thinking of selling it. Then I saw a pic of the '06 VTX1800C with orange flames on black and I knew I had to have one. A couple of months of being told that Honda still was not taking orders, I began to open up to the possibility of getting another color scheme. As the specs have not really changed since its inception, I was also open to any year.
Now I am the proud owner of a new '03 VTX1800 S model, Illusion Blue, and will never need another bike. In fact, when it comes time (when I'm about 80), I can always trike it!
Oh yes, I do have a job. I teach Respiratory Therapy at Central Piedmont Community College. Glad to be here!

BigAmigo,
Thanks.
The lightbar is Honda. The installation was easy. The 1 thing I would caution you about is when fishing the wires through the lightbar, make sure you remove any burs around the hole. I'm not sure the 1800 installation is the same as the 1300. I have a friend with a 1800 retro and his looks different. I got them from HDL.

Hi everyone, I saw a link to this site through Extreme Revolutions site. From what I've seen, it looks like a good site.
I ride a 2004 1800C around Western Colorado and Eastern Utah for fun. I bought my bike from the local dealer in July of 2004 and never regreted it. My previous bike was a V65 magna (also a great bike) but is was to small for me, I'm 6'6" but my bike still fits me very well and is comfortable on long trips.

Hi All,
Just dropped in from VTXOA board to check things out and so far I like what I see. Riding a 2002 1/2 (Bought Silver VTX cause dealer didn't have Black, had it stripped down and sent lots of parts out for chroming, then when dealer got a 2003 Black X he swapped the painted parts) Half '02 and half '03.
Been riding since '72. Not riding now due to wreck on Labor day on a dirt bike. Dr's won't let me even drive a cage yet due to vision problems. I enjoy camping, touring and exploring new places to ride.
More later, going to explore

Hey! I am Dave Chandler, I am in the upstate area of South Carolina. Like of some of you, I took a few years (more like 20 years) away from riding and now I am back, and with more sense than before (I hope). Although the bikes have changed some, and are more reliable, I have found that I have changed much more and I am less reliable (at least I can't take the miles like I once could).
When I began my search for a bike I knew I wanted another Honda and settled on a 2004 1300C. Hey, it was a Great looking bike! I soon discovered, however, that I was no longer some 25 year old iron butt and after a few hundred miles I saw that some changes had to be made. I started by replacing that seat with a used one from an 1800C, which I found much more comfortable, then the risers (which eased my shoulders and back), then a windshield (where did all that wind come from?), then the bags (found I needed to be able to tote extra jackets??), now I have ordered some Cobra floorboards (actually Santa is bringing them). I know, I will soon have a 1300R. Still love the lines of the 1300C though!
Glad to be here and I appreciate an alternate forum!!

Welcome Dave, After you're back in the saddle for awhile, you may find your rides getting longer and longer. These bikes are very comfortable after you get used to them. I don't know how old you are, but I think you're as old as you feel and the numbers don't matter.
I'm in NC. I think we will have to orgainze a get-together this spring.

Hello everyone from an old, new motorcycle rider. I began this new phase of my life the last week of Jul 05 when I completed the MSF BRC, obtained my license, and bought a Candy Red 05 VTX 1300S. All the research I had done on purchasing motorcycles had been confined to the 750 - 1100 size. But when I sat on the 1100 it was too tall for my short legs and felt top heavy. The sales mgr suggested I sit on the 1300 and I liked it, it was a good fit. With much apprehension about being able to handle such a big machine with absolutely no (none, nada, nil) experience whatsoever, I bought it. In the first three months of ownership I have accumulated over 6300 miles and loved every one of them including all those in the parking lots of local schools practicing and trying to learn how to ride.
This is my first post to this board having just discovered it about 15 minutes ago. I am certain that I will take away from the vtxcafe much, much more than I will ever be able to contribute. But, I pledge to try and give back in the spirit that others give to help me. Being retired I can ride when, if, and where I want, and I usually do. Lord willing, I am planning to ride across country to Idaho and Washington to visit two of my brothers in late spring early summer 2006. If you would be willing to mow my yard while I am gone, please PM me. :>))) Ride safely always.

hey, everybody! My name is matt, i live in nashville, tn. i have ridden motorcycles for most of my life, but had a very demanding job which left no time to ride. i have been in the process of looking for another motorcycle for a while now, and have decided on the VTX for quality and bang for the buck. i just don't think that you can beat it. i will be purchasing in march of '06, but was looking around on the 'net and found this site, and have been enjoying reading the threads. i am a CAD technician for an a/e firm here in nashville, and enjoy shooting sports along with riding. i am really glad to be getting back to what i enjoy best. i have gotten along riding my buddy's bike from time to time, but it just isn't the same. look forward to talking to you all!!

Hi Matt, Welcome to the board.
Which size and model has caught your fancy?
I have the 1300 Retro (S). I was looking on the Honda site at the F model and it looks pretty cool. I just like the bigger fenders and floor boards of the retro.
Think about what look you want and how the various accessories will look on the particular model you choose. Also, I changed the risers on mine, the C model risers are part of the handlebars and you can't move them easily. Look at little things like that to help make the decision on model. Overall, I think whatever model you get, you will be very happy with the VTX.
I'll be riding through Nashville in Sept on my way to Phoenix. We could meet.

I think that I am leaning toward the Retro. I like it's looks and the overall line of the bike. I also like the Neo Retro, but they do not seem to be popular in my area, as I cannot find one. Maybe by March I will be able to locate one. I am currently trying to figure out what kind of options that I want to add. I know that I will swap out the pipes, but after that I am not sure. I have a work buddy that swapped the pipes on his, and installed a PC III, only to have a lot of difficulty in getting the bike to idle correctly. Small issue probably, but it has left me a little hesitant to get into that right off. As for riding, after I do find the perfect bike, I will be up to go for a ride anytime.

I am Franz, live in Kona, Hawaii, and enjoy being able to ride year around with the same weather. Had a Sabre 1100, which got rearended in August 2005, which made me switch to the VTX 1800 F Version III. What a bike, I am an addon junky, so it is kind of disappointing, that this bike is already so perfectly trimmed out, that there is hardly anything to add without ruining the overall appearance. Maybe a nice solo saddle, if it ever becomes available, or maybe the solo luggage rack for the 1800 C/N, if they make it with the necessary adapters.
Enjoy the ride!

Just found this website. Recently purchased a Red VTX 1300. Haven't been able to ride the bike as much as I would like to due to the weather and holiday activities. I used to fly for an airline and due to the current condition of the airline industry and the commute I had to make between DFW and ATL, I threw in the towel and went back to engineering and now have more time to do some of the things I have been missing for a long time. That includes riding motorcycles. I have been out of it for 20 years. Glad to be back.

My name is Mark; I had a Honda CB 450 for 5 years but gave it up 15 years ago when I got married. Started up again this past summer with a used H-D Sportser (Got it from a family member), all in all in decent bike, just not what I wanted.
Saw the 1300 VTX C and fell in love!
This bike has it all, great looks, decent performance and of course Honda reliability (I’m hoping at least) what a blast to be back riding after all these years!
Great to meet other VTX riders and looking forward to gaining new insights and sharing experiences.

I bought my VTX1300R on 30 Nov 2005 from Steel Dreams in Burlington, WA. Since then I have managed to put over 850 miles on "Lil' Debbie" as I call "her".
I have also managed to add some items to my bare stock 1300 since I bought her. I have the Kuryakyn ISO grips, Boulevard windscreen, WillyBruno driver's backrest, Kuryakyn Final Drive cover, Formotion clock (attached to the handlebar bolt with double-sided tape), and two Powerlett power adapters (one on either side of the neck in the frame neck covers).
I have a passenger backrest on order from CruiserBackrests, and I plan to add the throttle boss and KewlMetal helmet locks to the ends of my ISO grips.

I have chromed some of the front end, like the levers and master cylinder and switch housings and put on the side tag mount. Install a left side mount Harley chrome horn and a Harley Siren air cleaner. I have installed the exposed coil style shocks. I made my own plate to cover were the tag did mount and did not cut off the tag bracket. also installed a Wind Vest sheild. I also cutted my stock exhaust and installed 1 foot glass packs inside and put everthing looking back stock except for the sound. I have more chromed parts to pickup tomorrow at the chromer. Going to do my foward controls next. I guess thats it.

My VTX was such a great bike I started an X-Cessories company built around the VTX. Funny thing is... Harley riders and every other metric bike out there like the stuff as well. So the company crossed over for all bikes. Isn't life interesting!
I was a professional musician since 1985. I toured with Stryper back in 1985-1986 as their keyboardist. More info at my bands website www.JustaBand.com
I am retired from full time work due to an auto immune disfuction that has been trying to kill me for 2 years.
I also became guest/co-host of a radio program called Classic Christian Music-Radio this past month based out of Orange County California, and that has been a blast.

Hey yall,
Junior, dang I kinda like that , been a while. Wait till you guys get a load of my spelling. Anyway I was brought up hanging on to the tricycle handlebars that my Dad attached to the inside of his duo-glide bars untill I was was to tall to see over, then rode behind him till it was too embarrassing (13) , then he put a ovesized jacket on me , a full helment , built me up with on old rigid 45 with a hand shift and SS clutch and away we went touring on every vacation I ever remember. Switched to metric's when I turned 16 and got my lic. and here I am now, several bikes later, same bride for the last 26 years, (I got lucky, nope Blessed!) My dad still rides , (80 yrs old) an 1300 retro, he's gone down three times in the last year, all at 1 or 2 miles and hour , more embarassing for him than anything, his legs are going out on him, till then he had never dropped a bike in the last 62 years prior , says he will stop when he can't get back up and for me not to worry, he still drifts into corners and drags them boards with the best of em once he's rollin. Anyway hi to all !!! :icon_wave

Hey Guys...
New member here from Texas. I have owned my 02 1800C since December 01, and I recentley bought my wife an 03 1800C during the "Fire sale" this spring. We live near DFW, and we ride with the Texas X Riders group (http://www.texasxriders.com), and we also read the board on http://www.vtxoa.com. We participated in the world record run at the Honda homecoming last July, and got into the Guiness Book of records for having the largest organized ride of a single model of motorcycle (594 VTX's in one parade!!). That was a VERY cool site to see. Our trip took us from Texas across 12 sates and into Canada before we got back home. 3000 miles on a stock seat in a week is NOT that fun. I need an upgrade before our next road trip. Hope to hear from some of you guys, and hopefully meet up and ride.
Keep the shiny side up,

I hate talking about myself, sometimes I edit out as many "Is" as possible from emails and posts.
I'm a DOD retiree since 9/30/01, started back riding and restoring a 1983 V-65 Magna, Candy Maroon about 2 weeks after retiring . It's a never-ending process, but quite a bit of progress has been made. It's a really nice old bike, but can always be improved.
After riding a 2004 VTX 1300C since 3/2/04, have developed quite an interest in the VTX. Wanted to be included in as many VTX discussions as possible. Can't have too many sources for information about the bike.
Learned that risers on the 1300C are a must for short armed people. The Ultimate seat also added to the comfort factor. The Memphis Fats 19" shield deflects wind and bugs, making long rides more pleasant. Never wanted a windshield before, but, what a difference!!
The X is a nice bike to ride and have fun with. Sharp looking, too. There are a lot of chrome items on my wish list, getting an order together now.
I'll be checking this website often, probably daily.
Ride safely and have fun!!!

Hi Everyone out there -
My name is George Peplow and I live outside of Columbus, Ohio. I've been riding a 04 1300C for a couple years now. This is actually my first road bike as all of my previous experience has been off-road but it started getting harder and harder to recover from falls and hitting 'things' so I thought I'd give a cruiser a try and IT'S GREAT!
Looking forward to participating in the VTXcafe.

Hello, All --
I'm from Long Island, New York, and ride a black '04 VTX1300C.
As far as work goes, I'm an Area Sales Manager for CitiMortgage, the mortgage lending arm of Citibank.
I noticed a few folks from the vtxoa board were also active here, so I thought I'd check in.
Hey, Awful Knawful -- the bike I had prior to my VTX was the same as your 'other' bike -- a 1983 maroon V65 Magna. As I recall, '83 was the year that Honda introduced it. I bought it new that year, and kept it for about 15 years. I remember it was advertised as the first bike that could turn the quarter in 10-point-something seconds, stock. It was quite a ride. With that powerful V-4 block, it wasn't too easy to keep the front wheel on the ground if you cranked it. Have fun working on yours!

Hey All,
My name is Kevin, from Reading PA, stationed at Dover AFB DE. Been riding for 14 years, started on a 92 Shadow 600. That bike was too slow so I started riding sportbikes for the next 12 years. Saw the 2005 VTX 1300 at the shop where I get all my work done and bought all my bikes. Walked out with the 2005 1300R about 2 hours later, traded in an 2003 600RR. Stuck about 6 grand into my baby and now it is unique and looks the way I envisioned it could.
Still a couple things I may choose to do.
I would like to take off the stock speedo and smooth the tank up and get a digital readout mounted on the bars.
Still need to get my paint done which should be completed this winter. Getting a true fire paintjob as soon as I can give up the bike for a couple weeks. The weather here has been insane the last couple weeks. Have been riding almost everyday, unusual for the northeast to be around 55 everyday in January.
Hope to meet some new peole and possibly get together with some fellow VTX riders that may be local and get a couple rides setup together.

Hello all,

Started with a Kowasaki in 1966, moved up to a Honda 750 in 1970 and have been a Honda man since. I just love my 05VTX1300S that I bought in April 05, have over 7,000 miles on it and can't wait til better weather gets here so I can ride some more. Made a trip to Ogden Utah in Sept. and loved every minute of it. Was going to post a pic but the file size is too big, maybe later

Hello all. I'm WaterBoo and live in Durham, N.C. When I was a young, drunk Marine I used to ride friends bikes but never owned one of my own.
One fine day in September 2004, I said, "@#*! it! I'm getting a bike before I get too old and fat to ride......(I was going on 56 and 300 pounds)
Bought a 2004 Triumph America and had a ball. Decided it was too small so I traded that and ended up with a 1999 Yamaha Royal Star Venture.....a fully dressed touring machine. Only problem was, my inseam is 29.5 and the seat was 31........made it hard to push backwards and stop at lights. Believe me, if your legs are too short and your ride weighs 800+ pounds, its hard.
Saw a 2005 silver (the fastest color available) 1300 retro and snatched it up. Added a windscreen, engine guards, highway pegs, ghost brackets and bags......took off the passengar's seat and put a chromed rack curved in line with the fender......
Don't talk much on the boards, but I like to read them and learn from everyone elses experiences. I've been reading VTX forum for months now and guess it was time to introduce myself.
May you ride no faster than your guardian angel flies.

Allen Austin, Hickory NC. I am a furniture upholsterer by day and do custom bike work at night, polishing or whatever somebody wants done. It all started when I bought my X two years ago. I went from hot rodding to bikes and I love working on bikes more. I am getting ready to go to work for the NCNG as a machinist and hopefully that will lead the way to more custom work and hopefully some new cool stuff for the bike.

Hello all from the wet-n-cold pacific northwest....
Just wanted to break the ice and introduce myself. I;ve been called Dr Xtreme for longer than I want to own up to. It was bestowed upon me by one of my old crew members due to my constantly telling the team we never have enough...cubic incher; horsepower; traction; etc, etc....
I bought my 03 1800 C not quite two years ago and have loved it since I first looked at it. I got the candy red model. First year out I added Menphis shades 21" shield, Kuryakyn mirrors and extra long stems, Cobra Pass Lights and bags. Then I de-badged it so that awesome tank line was uncluttered.
For this year I just added Kuryakyn control covers and master cylinder covers, Aeromach 6 inch risers, Mustang studded tank bib, seat and pilon, Power Commander USB III and Bub/Rinehart Stagered pipes. Next is removal of the wheels to sand and polish the rims. Hopefully by then the rain will stop and I can ride again.
I will put up a few photos when I can. until then, ride safe, live free and be well!

Hello there fellow X-Riders, I'm glad to find another forum to view fellow geniuses that chose to ride an X.
Hello to everbody, from here in southern Idaho (SPUD country). Started riding a V Star then switch to the 1800C, don't think I'll be changing again for a while. I don't put a ton of miles on my bike because I'm real busy in the summer months, but the time I do get to ride I really enjoy. For me it's the quality of time spent on my bike not the quantity.

Hi! David Johnson here! I live in Gulfport, Mississippi 43 yrs young! I am self employed I do what ever it takes to pay the bills and have money left to travel and play with my bikes! I have a watered down 03 VTX 1800 Retro and a 2000 1100 Sabre (customized) both went under 22in of saltwater! Bummer... But I got them back from the ins co. Big projects just waiting to happen!!! Even after fixing them up I would not trust them for long hall rides once saltwater get's on wires there is allways going to be gremlins to fight! I am looking for another 03,04,05 1800 Retro to be my 2 up dependable ride. I love the forms for the good info and comraderie, I am a regular on another for the Sabre "The Sabre Group" and now that I have found you guys You wont be able to get rid of me!

hey big dave, my name is george and i live in diamondhead right down the road from you. i went this maorning to bastrop la. to purchase an '02 1800r. this bike had a salvage title but all repairs had been made and it was a VERY Beautiful bike. well, im a pretty small person and i havent owned a bike in 23 years so when i got there and looked around i wound up going with a 2005 vtx1300c with 770 total miles. after the 680 mile trip we were pretty tired and I havent even taken the bike out of the back of the truck yet but what little time i drove the bike i finally realized why i divorced my wives, i was marrying the wrong thing! my son in law and daughter are into the crotch rockets and he usually goes to bike nite at the sonic on 3 rivers rd every wednsday so i imagine i will be joining them from now on. if you ever want to hook up with everyone and ride send me a message. take it easy and i hope katrina didnt mess up your rides too awfully bad! George.
I live in Warner Robins GA and am stationed at Robins Air Force Base. My bike is a 04' VTX 1300 Retro and have done the basic mods to it (suspension, pipes). I try to ride as much as I can.
