Well I just got back from my 800 my round trip to see the Hogs loose to a worse team. How disappointing.

However that was quickly replaced with the panel covering the "guts" on the left side blew off on the freeway at 90 mph. Of course there isn't anything left to salvage. I remember when the salesman first showed me how to take it off I commented on how unsecure it was and that I was concerned it would fall off. He said it never happens. Hmmm, I'm thinking it does.

Anyone else ever have this happen?

Never had my side cover come off, but I did notice how loose it was. I checked it out better and I had lost the rubber grommet that held it in place. (I think it got pushed through and out) I talked to my dealer and he replaced the grommet and gave me several more just in case. The new one works great and I haven't had any problems losing them since. (almost a year now) They do seem to fit tighter. Maybe they will replace it under warranty since it was their faulty grommet which caused you to lose it anyway. Good luck!

I had the grommet issue as well. But I had to buy a new one (I guess I'm not as cute as Mer, LOL). My side covers fit nice and snug as long as the grommets are properly in place. You can tell if it's not in right. If you try to shake the side cover a little and it rattles, the grommets are in wrong. The side cover should move slightly but not make any noise.

Get the dealer to replace the side cover, too. Since you pointed it out, he should.

If he won't, try to find side covers on the classsified sites (VTXOA.com is probably a good try).

Brand new bike with extended warrenty. I'm thinking he will replace it for no charge. I can be a very squeeky wheel if need be.
