I have had a super sport bike for 4 years. It has come to the point where my wife would like to ride with me. The Dealer has a NEW 2004 vtx 1300c silver, and asking $8400 Total out the door with taxes licence and all. He also has the same bike but 2005 for $8900. Any suggestions/comments on if there is any differences in the two years, and any recommendations other than this bike? I don't want the 1800 because of the size and weight. Does the 1300 have plenty of power?? Thanks for your help and reply.

Buy the largest you are comfortable with. That being said, I have a 1300r and it has pleanty of power for my girlfriend and I to ride anywhere we want to go. I weigh about 270 and she's about 130. By myself I cruise at 80-90 on the open highway and still have pleanty of passing power. I do wish I got the 1800 but wasn't sure I could handle the size. No regrets with this purchase, but the next one will be larger.

The 1300 has plenty of power for two up riding. As far as the price difference, if both bikes are brand new, that's kind of a toss up. If you are planning on keeping the bike for a long time then buying the 04 you'll have $500 to spend on some extras and the year difference won't matter so much. If you will only keep it a year or so then probably the 05 makes more sense. Just remember that's just MHO.

The 1300 is powerful enough for 2-up touring. If you want to go fast, it's reasonably quick. Bigger is always faster, regarding the 1800. The 1800 has a higher center of gravity with those big cylinders and costs way more.

The 1300 has a great balance and feel, perfect for 1 and 2-up riding, IMHO.
