Hello, I recently bought a 2006 VTX1300C with 3,770 miles. The original owner bought it new in Mar 08 and performed the 600 mile service and Oil/Filter change. He switched to WIX Filters and Mobil 1 Syn MX4T (now called Racing 4T) in 10w40 weight. I just changed the Oil/Filter staying with the same WIX/Racing 4T 10w40.

I have an appointment with the dealer in two days for the 4,000 service. Since it is only "Checks" for this & that; and the cycle is running fine; and the warranty is over (15 months now). I'm wondering if it is a waste of $90.?

I searched past posts and only saw comments about the value of the 600 mile check up which I agree is valuable.

Thanks for any advice, Doug

Doug, you did not mention if the previous owner had the valves adjusted. If not then you will definitely want to get that done. Other than that, I would not waste the money. What you want to do is check the bike yourself for anything loose - bolts, screws, clamps, check your tire pressure, etc.

Just had my 4k done, wish it had only cost 90 bucks. They said the plugs were bad and replaced them and did all the rest for $130.

Hmmm...I musta lost something in the translation, or maye the knock on the head back in April has something to do with it...But at the 4000 mile mark, all I remember needing was an oil change that I did myself...Almost at 8000 now, and gotta do the oil again, as well as the next valve check/adjustment....Doing it myself...
