I ride a 2003 VTX "C" model, while riding to Tombstone AZ today my bike had no power, would surge, and my low fuel light came on after about 50 miles after the last fil up. It seams to be getting too much fuel. Some black smoke is comming out the exhaust and will not stay running without gooseing the throttle, if not it will die. I made it home and now want to know if somebody has had this problem? Thanks, Curtis from Tucson

Sounds like a couple of fouled plugs. Have these been checked? It wouldn't just start running rich for no reason. I guess this is a 1800 you didn't state. I would pull the plugs and see if there fouled BLACK in color and probaly smell like raw fuel. If there BLACK replace them and take it on a test run. GG :D

+1 GG; also, have you done anything to the ECM (i.e.-aftermarket fuel processor)? What is your airbox situation? Stock? If so, how's the stock filter look (i.e.-clean/new condition??).

It is a 1800 VTX, the only aftermarket part is a SS looking airbox. The temp was in the 60's to 70's. and low humidity. It is a fuel controled bike. I have had this air box on the bike for a few years and have rode in 30 degree temps with no problems. I did remove the filter afer the ride to see if it was dirty. It was clean and didn't notice any moisture. I will check the plugs and put it back together to ops check. Will post any discrepancies, thanks for all the help!!

I removed and replaced the spark plugs which were fouled badly, the bike started but started to run bad once again. I was advised to ad some fuel nozzle cleaner to the system which I have, the bike starts ok but soon it idles rough and still runs rich. I am working the fuel through the system to clean out the nozzles. If not?

If it continues they same way when the injector cleaner runs threw the bike. It may be a processor error. I'd take the bike in for a remap of the processor. Not much you can do to a FI bike in the shade tree area. You should take it where they have the equipment to check it properly. GG :D

+1 GG, couldn't agree more. FI is one thing I won't screw around with, even on cars. Don't have the equipment, and it's way too expensive to get it from my shadetree ways.
