Hi VTX FELLOWS,
I have '05 1300R and I'd like to put max tire e.g. 200 on stock rear rim with minimum or no modification of other stuff.:hmm2:
Anybody know if it is possible or already have this kind of set on the bike?
If it is possible does it work without any further complication e.g. scratchining tire by fender etc?
I will appreciate any comments or suggestions.
thanks

No problems with it or mods. really needed that I've seen. The stock rim will pinch it in, so you probably won't seem much difference in width (at least from what I've seen). Most people do a "foots mod" for getting a larger rear wheel/tire (taking parts off an 1800 and placing them onto the 1300) or just go with a fat tire kit to go beyond that.

I have done a lot of research on this and your best bet is to use a 180 tire. The 300 on a 3.5" rim will just roll the tire more and not really make it look wider then the 180. The 180 will actually have a better fatter look on the 1300 and won't appear so rounded.

thanks for quick replay,
I was thinking about 180 tire and it seems to be the cheapest solution for me.
Do you have any recommendation for the tire manufacturer? I have the stock tires for front and rear yet.
thanks

If you use a Avon 180 it will look a lot wider then Dunlops or other tires I have seen. As for a front, you need to check the manufacturers specs to see what will fit under the fender. Inflate yoru front tire to 38-40psi and measure from the center of the axle to the ouside or across the whole tire to get the diameter. check to see how much clearance you have between the tire and fender and that will tell you what diameter you can go to. Remember, if your tire is worn you will need to add a bit to the overall dia.

OK this is the way I look at it. The best way to make your tire size look wider is to go with RETRO RICH's advice. This way you can run a wider tire and a shorter sidewall 60 or less and make it look even wider. Now for your question. What's the biggest tire that can be put on the stock rim without any mods. A 200/70/15 METZ or Avon will go on your stock wheel with no mods to wheel or fender. I've run 170s- 180s and 200s. On two different R models. On stock spokes, C model wheels, and reworked 1300S wheels. Nothing in my eyes looks as good as the 200 on the R/S if you are using a Stock Wheel. If you will look at the pics below at the space between the sidewall of the tire and the fender. The RED BIKE a 2004 S with C wheels has a 200/70/15 METZ. The BLACK BIKE has a 180/80/15 Dunny also with C wheels. Tires are mesured in MM. A 200 is 20 MM wider than a 180 in anykind of math. Look at the pics and decide for youself. The Foots mod is the way to go with the wider wheel tire combo. But a 200 on a stock wheel looks great for around $30.00 more than a stock tire size. And it feels the rear fender up nicely. My nickel, GG :D

Good shots GG; does make a difference when I look at it from that angle and looking at your pics. Last time I looked at some pics someone posted on vtxoa, it didn't look like there was that much difference between the stock and going up to the 200 (maybe I'm not remembering correctly, might have only gone up to a 180 or 190 or something).
Nice work and good write-up.
BTW, clean up the back side of those big 3's on the black bike!

thanks all of you,
it seems to me that 200 works with stock rim pretty well, so I have to weardown my current tire and change it.;)
thanks mscales for advice for front. I've checked the clearance and it looks that 150 is max tire, bigger could be risky (no risk no fun) but not in this case.

Yeah tell me about it. I live in the woods with a quarter mile gravel driveway. Really hard to keep anything clean. It's an adventure just getting in and out. But after a rain forget keeping them clean. I'm still all for the foots mod. It's the best thing going for the money involved. When I get my 1800, I'll probaly go with the PM wheels. Then the Ghost can have the hand me downs. For now, I'll have to settle for the 200 on the stock wheel. Don't see dropping the coin in a wheel, rotor, mount when I will have one before summer's end. See ya soon!!! GG :D

Take a look at Betty Boop's ride. She has done a great job with all her mods.

thanx, but she did the foots mod (used the 1800 rim) - I can not get hold of one in my country (will have to import it $$$$$) so my only option is to go with 200 on stock rim and alot of guys said it pinches a bit, and id be better off with a 180.( most out of hear say, I'd like to get comments or a pic from someone who actually did it)

That's right she did. You are better off going with a 180 because the 200 pinches on the smaller 1300 wheel. You can buy the 200 but your just throwing money away doing that.

Thx BB, was kinda hoping for a pic of the 200/70 15 on a 'C model. even better if the stock license plate holder in the back was removed.

I'm on my 6th 200 on my C. Never had any problems, except for tire life, and I like the handling much better with the 200... enjoy, be judicious with the throttle.....
