Ok so I was on my brand new bike today at the motorcycle saftey class and my 06 VTX1300 with only 08 miles on it starts puttering and puffing out tons of black smoke from only one of the pipes. I shut it down and let it sit for a min then fired her back up and the black smoke wasn't as bad but it was still puttering and bogging out bad. After looking around at the bike I relized I has been riding around for about an hour or two with the choke pulled half way out (Not my fault someone else did this). The rider saftey guy is a mech and told me one of the cyclinders wasn't firing. Anyway we took it to the honda shop and they cleand the jets and carb everything was already good. Then they pulled the plugs out and both were compleatly black. Replaced those and the bike seems fine now but they are keeping it overnight. Any ideas? Is it all becasue of the plugs and the choe being out for so long?

I had the same problem when I bought my bike. The honda dealer preped the bike and started it why I finished the paperwork. I rode the bike for about 150 miles. When I got the bike home it was running rough. So I checked the choke and it was half way out. This was in the month of June about 75 degrees. I did not even think about the choke because of the temp. The bike ran so bad after this I took it back to the dealer. They checked the plugs and they were fowled. The bike had less than 200 miles on it. They replaced the plugs at no charge. Ive put 6000 miles on the bike since then with no problems.

When you choke the bike, you richen the fuel. When you drive with the choke out, it will build up and begin fouling the plugs. Only use the choke to start the bike up, warm it up, then turn it off. It may take some practice, but you will get it right. Some people say it is better to use the choke to start the bike, then shut the choke off and then feather the throttle until you get it running smooth. harley riders do this alot.

You really don't need to replace fouled plugs....either clean them up or just run the bike on the highway for 1/2 hour and they'll clean themselves. I have no idea why the dealer feels the need to keep it overnight.
As stated, use only enough choke to get it running...then shut it off. I never choke my bike for more than a few seconds. Most times,I dont need it at all.
Good luck with the new scoot.

They must need to keep it overnight for observation, just incase they didn't steal all of your money

Sounds weird that they are keeping it overnight. It's not a dog at the vet for heaven's sake who's vitals need to be observed. :hmm2:

Sounds kinda like my experience with Carmax. I owned the vehicle for over a month. I had it in mu possessen for less than 24 hours. Will never deal with them again. If they actually performed the however many point inspection they are always talking about that vehicle would never have been on the lot.
UM, sorry, still pissed about that one after 5 years.
