looking for a place to hook up my charger without having to take my battery out. Under right cover I see 2 large lugs, positive and negative, hooked to a 30 amp fuse. Can I use those? It's under a rubber boot. I don't have a manual to tell me what those lugs or that fuse is for. thanks.:icon_buil

:coffee: I hook the ground to the ground on the motor and the positive to the side of the solenoid that goes to the positive terminal of the battery. The lugs you refer to are probaly the one on the solenoid. As you face them the one on the right (toward the front of the bike) is the positive terminal of the battery. There is a ground point above the positive just to the left (toward the back of the bike) just look for a bolt that has a wire attached and is screwed into the steel of the frame. You can use these two points to connect a battery charger. Many trickle chargers/Battery Minders will come with a pigtail that you can hook directly to the battery and leave the tail under a side cover. That is the best way to do this. Hope this helps.

My advice is to pick up a maintanence charger with battery pig tails. Then You can connect the terminals to the battery and route the pig tail to one of the side covers. (mine is routed to the left side cover.) That way you can keep up on bettery maintenance and not have to pull the battery.

Merwin, thanks for the install info. on this. I really need to add one of these, even though I try to rice atleast once a week in the winter. I understand these things BatteryTender etc., will actually make you battery last longer. Sounds good to me.

Yep, they will help extend the life since they are a "float charger" and will maintain the proper voltage/charge when the battery is not in use. Soon as it drops, it will start to charge and then just "maintain" once it gets the charge back up to where it should be.

I have this charger from Northern Tool. It has a fuse inline on the hot side. I ran the cable down under the bike and strapped it to the rear peg. When I get home, I connect the charger and let it do it's thing. Read the write up from the website. http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200332201_200332201
