I have a 2002 1800R, recently on a ride when I went to roll on more throttle in 5th gear at 110kph the engine reved but no more speed. I noticed this a couple of times thru the tail end of the ride.
My question is this; Is there an adjustment that I can make to the hydralic clutch or should i just replace the clutch springs?
The bike has 20k kilometers on it, I can't imagine that the plates need replacing at this point.
Thanks for the help.

:coffee: Did you buy this bike new? If it is slipping with a hydrolic clutch there is a good chance the the plates along with other components of the clutch need changing. Clutch life depends on the rider more than the durability of the parts or kilometers driven. Some riders can get 10 years to a clutch while others can burn them in a few months.

used, only had it a few months. i'm betting its the springs as I am a bigger than your average bear. thats why I bought the vtx. Nice to have a bike that matches for a change

Try bleeding the Clutch first. But if it is only happening in 5th gear at higher speeds, sounds like you are right about the springs. I would think you would feel it more from start than on the go.

:coffee: Slipping in a higher gear is a classic sign of warn friction discs

1800's have a lot of power, and I've read a handful of threads where guys end up replacing the clutches early on. Like Merwin T says, it has a lot to do with the rider as well. You can DIY and buy a replacement kit from places like XtremeRevolution, etc.

Plus 1 Retro Rich, Merwin T, It also sounds like to me you have weak springs and glased friction disks. Sounds like a replacement is in your future. GG :D

:drunk: There are alot of big guys riding the VTX. It fits us I'm 6'1'' and 300lbs. I know that there are other guys bigger than me. That is one of the great atributes of the VTX it handles weight really well.:coffee:
