View Full Version : VTXCAFE site crashes Apple Safari Browser
Hi,
For the past while, using the VTXCAFE pages always crashes my web browser. It only occurs on this site. Sometimes immediately, sometimes after a few "clicks" here and there around the site. I haven't been able to determine why, but I have been able to determine that it only occurs here. I can also tell you that this only started occuring recently.
Just thought that you would like to be aware of this and I was also wondering if any other Apple users have experienced this.
Thanks!

It's been fine here. I'm running the latest edition though.
I'm running Safari 2.0.4. Same one?
Thanks!

Same one 2.0.4 (419.3) Ya know, I have been having problems with some of the "smilies". I know it's no big deal compared to your problem. Maybe you have a bug. Do you have Virus Barrier by any chance? Sorry I'm new to this whole Apple deal.
Apple's don't generally suffer from bugs and viruses or spyware like PC's do. Most Apple users don't even use antivirus software as it just really isn't necessary. I'll check my disk permissions and a few other things. The fact that now I know that yours isn't doing it helps me a lot though. But I do find it interesting that it only occurs while using this site.
Thanks!

Yes about the virus, but doesn't the Intel chip change that...and what about the whole Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Entourage that I run. I've heard that Apple can also be a carrier for a viruses, I'd like to protect my friends....I'm running Virus Barrier because it was recommed to me and it was relatively cheap compared with my Mac Book Pro.

I have no idea what the problem would be, I'll do some checking.

Hi Coley,
No, to the best of my knowledge, and there was a LOT of discussion about this, the chip didn't change anything. Its all about the operating system. All I can tell you is that my entire industry runs on MACs pretty much excusively throughout the world, and they are all online almost all the time. I haven't heard of anyone getting a virus. I personally don't know of anyone that runs antivirus software as most MAC users consider it to be pretty much a waste of money. I suppose anything is possible, but it just doesn't seem to happen much if at all. You have your antivrus software now anyway, but it might be interesting to do a little more research via Apple, your Apple dealer, or even Google.
For me, after all this time using MAC, I really don't give viruses much thought anymore. It's pretty much a non-issue. I'm sure as Apple products become more and more popular, eventually there will be more people trying to write viruses for them, but so far, so good.
Cheers!

Thank you. Please let me know if you find anything.
This tool might help?

I believe I have fixed the problem. Knowing that Coley was using the same browser and not having any problems pointed me in the right direction (thanks Coley). It appears to have been a bad VTXcafe cookie. Everytime the site tried to call upon that cookie, my browser would crash. I deleted the offending cookie and so far so good. Time will tell, but if anyone else out there runs into this problem, this is probably the solution.
All the best!

Both of my Macs suffer from this from time to time. It happens here more than any other site I visit. WHat I found to stop it, is to click on the Hard Drive icon in the top right of the screen. Click Applications, Click Utilities, Click Disk Utility and open. Click the same Mac HD in the Disk Utility window and then, Repair Permissions. That usually takes care of the 'VTX' site crash. It may be necessary to use the Install Disc you got with your computer. What you do there is..... Insert the Install Disc or an upgrade Dosc if you bought one of them, like I did. After it shows up on the screen, do a Restart. When the screen shuts down, Hold the C key until the computer completely starts back up asking what do you want to use as your start up disc that time. Click on the Install , Upgrade disc. You do not want to reinstall everything! You must find the DisK Utilities folder. You can do that by scrolling across the top of the screen. Open the DisK Utility folder and like before with Preferences, Click on Repair Disc. You cannot repair the Macintosh HD Icon from inside the program. You must use the CD, DVD that came with your computer. It is a good idea to do this anyway at least once a month. You Macintosh will run a little faster and not have those problems you are mentioning.
If this is not clear, I admit it can get confusing, E Mail me or IM through here. I can talk you through it. Ive been a Mac user oops, Apple user since Apple IIc, Mac SE. Resistance is Futile! Apple Macintosh rarely has problems, when they do it is usually easy to fix. Only Hardware problem Ive had was the recalled video input on the motherboard on my G3 900mHz iBook dies twice.

No problems on my dual core Apple. Just as reliable as my VTX.
Both of my Macs suffer from this from time to time. It happens here more than any other site I visit.
I can confirm that this problem has definitely been solved! It was a bad cookie and deleting it solved the problem.
This is the only website that I have ever experienced this on. It will be interesting to see if I receive another bad cookie from this site again.
Thanks for your offer BubbaJePH. I had already tried repairing the disk permissions. I do do this very regularly and agree this is the 1st thing that Apple users should try if they are having any type of issue. I also highly recommend regularly running Disk Warrior as well.
Cheers!

I have Tech Tool Pro. I run that when I have to. Works great. I'm not saying there is something wrong with this site! I think this place is wonderful. Very imformative, friendly and flows great. Since it is a Bad Cookie, that is an easy fix. Some people have computers and have no idea how it works or how to trouble shoot it when it gets ill. Macs are known to be a little more bullet proof. During the dark ages, the Apple was considered more a toy than a working computer. Since, I've had friends convert to Mac that were devout Bill Gates users. I joke with one that in 1996 told me so many things he Parrotphrased from others. He finally saw the light. I told him, "I saw good in you young Skywalker" He is now an Apple Macintosh user on his second Mac. Bigger, faster, better..... Hum, Macintosh's operating system is known as "X" our beloved motorcycles are an "X"
I'm not saying there is something wrong with this site! I think this place is wonderful.I agree, great site! Love this site. It just bakes bad cookies that's all. I got another one about an hour ago. Unfortunately, Safari is not as forgiving with less than perfect coding as other browsers.
I keep Firefox on standby as there are a few other sites that I visit that don't crash Safari, but don't display properly either. That's when I start up Firefox. I prefer to stick to Safari when possible, as it has tighter intergration with the rest of the Apple software such as iPhoto, etc.
Have not tried tech tools. Will look into it.
Cheers!

All computers suffer from bugs. A bug is a problem with some code, not a malicious attempt by someone to do harm. Pc users will face more problems with viruses and spyware but mac users are more succeptable to individual hacks than pc users. If you run your updates it should fix the problem. Might also need java or adobe flash update.
