I love the spoke wheels but just hate cleaning and polishing the chrome wheels. I bought a Sears crafsman atv/motorcycle lift and its about 3/8" too tall I have to push the bike's (1800 VTX RS ) front tire on a 2x4 and then the lift will just slide under the bike and I can lift it off the ground . Now I can spin the wheel an wipe down making job much easer. I not sure about the individual spokes at this point its wipe down one at a time ,thats tough when you got big hands !! Anyone have any input on this.

Hate to say it but thats why I stayed away from spoke wheels. Had my wheels chromed too so I didn't have to spend a lot of time cleaning the brushed alum. You may want to try S100.

I have a wheel brush I bought at Pep Boys. I put it on the jack and clean the spokes that way. It is a pain in the ass but I like the look.

Boy's I will tell you this, I had the cast alum stock wheels, you want to talk about a pain in the a$$. I went to spokes and will take spokes any day of the week after trying to polish out those cast wheels and never being satisfied the way they looked. Take Care/Ride Safe Poor O'l "Zip"

Oh my a rider after my heart! Please don't look at my spokes either. The fact is I can't see them when I'm riding. :icon_roll

If you don't clean the spokes every now and then, they will rust - and then where will you be. Hmmmm, nice shinny chrome rims with 'rust red' spokes - could be a new style.
Then we'll all be talking about front end wobble again.

They don't have to shine, they just need to be dry and clean.

A good brush (like in BigX's post) will do the trick. Polish? It depends on how anal you are. As much as I get busted about how clean my bike is, I haven't polished the spokes.

hey NC....you are correct...you do seem to take a lot of ribbing when it comes to
your ride....is ONLY because we all are jealous (and appreciative of a fine kept ride) and we know you can handle it....descriptive compromise then.....I hereby dub your bike maintainence efforts as "EFFICIENT" and not anal as some might portray..hah!!!!
LOL
enjoy the day and hope the ice storm did not give you NC guys (and TSC) a rough time over the last 2 days

Hammer,
You know I figured that if you keep your wheels in motion that the water won't have a chance to settle and form rust!! LOL

You give me an idea though. What about black painted spokes?? I'm not that big on chrome as you know.

Don't really like the spoke wheels. They are hard to keep clean and I really don't like the looks on my bike. Im looking for a set of C model wheels now.

Have to admit the spokes do look good but if you get a flat, it's tow truck time and that can be a long wait and expense (above and beyond the repair) depending where you are at the time. With my casts I can just plug it and be on my way.

I bought some spray one wheel cleaner, S100 brand, it is kind of a gel and I spary it one, wash it off and dry the spokes.

I just did mine yesterday...as you I hated to clean 'em. So they have been neglected for about 6 mos. I bought a jack the other day because I wanted to do some work on the bike with the cold snapped that came our way...I bought a spoke brush and some cleaner yesterday when I got drug kicking and screaming to Wally world...I'll post the name of the cleaner (can't remember the name of it) but it started knocking off the grime before I had chance to pick up the brush...I am very happy with my results too...
