Today it's nice and sunny out so I decided to get the bike out of the garage and park it in the driveway and check my plugs before taking a ride. The bike started up fine in the garage and I rode it out to the driveway and the beautiful sunshine. Pulled and inspected the plugs (not fouled) and reinstalled them. Go to start the bike and it fires up then stumbles and dies. Now it just turns over but won't start. I pulled each plug and checked for spark and they are all good. For the record, the gas is several months old but it's the same gas that got me out of the garage:)
TIA for any suggestions,
Tom

make sure you don't have the gas off from storage....also check your vac line at the petcock to see if it came off.

Well, you've got fire. All we need now is fuel.I would start by making sure the fuel is turned on.How old is the fuel? Did you use treatment. It is very shocking how quick fuel can go bad.I've seen it a hundred times with boats and PWC's after the winter or a couple of months, you start the engine up and it runs for a second and then the gremlins hit.You might want to flush the system and clean the internal fuel screen.I tend to go overboard sometimes with pm but by the time you probe everything you could've had it fixed.Good luck to you.

Petcock is on and the vac line is attached. Without choke it turns over but doesn't even try to start. With full choke about every 10 revolutions there's a muffled backfire thru the carb. Is it OK to give the carb a shot of starter fluid?
Thanks again,
Tom

I'll also add that after cranking the motor over then giving the throttle a twist the carb is squirting gas. Pull the plugs and the plugs are wet with gas. Is there any for "whatever" reason the timing could have jumped? Oh, and the gas is about 3 months old and unfortunately no treatment was used.

Dry the plugs out and try new gas first. It could have built up condensation in the tank and you have a water problem. Check your wires and make sure there's no grounding. Perhaps the needle is stuck wide open and getting too much gas. I dont think think you jumped time. Others may be able to help more than I can. Good Luck.

If the carb is spurting gas I'd take it down and check for a stuck float causing it to flood out the plugs
