carb tuning problems

recently installed cobra exhaust and dj stage 1 kit and never adjusted a/f valve and some times had choking problems in first and second gear,I just followed the instructions that were posted on tuning the carburator and it got worse, What am I doing wrong?

First, I'd put the stock main jet back in there since the stage 1 kit has a smaller main jet in there. Stage 1 kit for these bikes is useless IMHO. With the smaller main, you're throwing in less fuel with the same airflow which makes no sense. Did you change anything at the airbox (add a K&N to stock box, different airbox, etc.?)? If you just changed the exhaust, only thing you MIGHT have to do is take the A/F out a little (to richen it just a little since you're aftermarket exhaust will be more free flowing and may lean you out a little). A/F should be at 2&1/2 to start, take out or in as necessary like an 1/8 of a turn at a time to make fine adjustments until you've got it right.
