Hello all . . . I need to haul my 1800 to the "nearest thing to local" bike shop to have a new rear tire installed . . . picked up a drywall screw in my rear tire, which has only 1600 miles on it! Grrr!!! Anyway, I'm a little nervous about loading it onto my friend's flatbed trailer. Not sure about how best to tie the bike down. Figgered I'd use the ratcheting type tie-downs, two on the bars and two attached somewhere at the rear? The tie-downs I have are rated for 500 lbs - will this be strong enough? When I've hauled bikes before, I used an enclosed trailer, hooked some tie-downs to the bars and ratcheted em down until the forks compress and it didn't go anywhere! I'd be forever in your debt if you can offer some helpful hints. I'd REALLY hate to lose my baby someplace along the interstate! Thanks!!!

You should be fine with those tie downs. You can also put something under the back part of the tires to help hold it in place. Unless you go crazy it should stay in place...Good luck

Knoxville Tennesse. I did use one on each side in back to keep the rear from bouncing around at all. You should be fine. Thats about four hundred miles each way.

Last time I had a flat I just plugged it and rode it to the local dealer for a replacement.

I take a 4"x4" block of wood and put it under the frame toward the front of the engine so when I tie down it bottoms on the wood so it will not put too much pressure on the fork seals. I then run one long tie down through the rear wheel and wrape it and tie to the other side. This stops the bounching, keeps the bike straight. I have hauled my bike some but I ride it mostly. Flat tires I either remove the wheel or plug it till I get to the shop.

I guess I just do things my way, but I've used Safety Seals for the past twenty-odd years and have never had one leak or fail. I've installed over forty in bike tires and several hundred in auto tires.
