My '05 1300C purred like a kitten. My '06 1300R clatters and rattles during acceleration. Sounds like a chevy 283 V-8 from the 70's that seemed to always have a valve lifter sticking. The '06R runs okay at any speed except for acceleration load. What in the world explains the cladder? I tried 87 and 91 fuel but no difference. Bike has 900 miles on it and made the same noise from right out to the showroom. Changed oil thinking there was an initial underfill on oil. Duh, I can't figure it out.

your '05 must have needed a valve adjustment. If there is no clatter they are tight. Tight is not good. Clatter is normal.

My 06 1300r makes the same noise and I checked the valves and they were not out of adjustment. If anybody has some insight that would be great.

Try running amsoil motorcycle grade oil in it. My 05 c is quiet as can be but the amsoil helped the tranny clunks that I had. Some of the noise you are hearing could be from the gears in the tranny just not being broken in yet. keep going and see if it get better. and remember all v twins have some noise. two identical bike can have completley different noises that are normal for them.
