Hey,
I have a 2003 VTX 1800R in the last couple of weeks it has been backfiring really bad when I let off the gas real quick or change gears. I have a power commander and have run the proper pre-configured map but I am still having problems and I can really smell some gas when I ride. I just replaced my plugs because the others were really burned up. Any suggestions?
After some research on here I see it might be a vacuum line so I am going to check that now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is this a new map?
Was it a custom map or one you found?
Have you tried a different map?
What is your pipe & intake setup?

It was a map from thier website. It was for Hard Krome 2:1 with stock or aftermarket air filter.
My bike is stock except for the exhaust and K&N air filter, well of course the power commander.
I think I may know what the problem is. I started thinking about when the problem first started happening. It was right after I replaced the battery. I think that the battery I bought is not supplying enough power to the coil and the plugs. I am probably not getting good spark which is causing some fuel to be left behind creating the backfire. What do you think?

Sounds real lean to me.

reinstall your map, might be with a battery change it lost the map when the battery cables were taken off.
I was reading the California board and biglry was saying something about letting off gas real fast that you will get the decell popping, you might drop in on them and ask them the same question.
