I installed my Zumo550 on a 2007 VTX1300C. Wired into headlight casing (switched) using existing, non-used "fog lamp" plug (3-pin mini-connector). Headlight comes off with 2 screws, and the "fog light" plug is near the back of the casing. Black/Brown wire is HOT, GREEN wire is Ground. Please always check with a volt meter with switch ON and OFF! Any auto or electronics store should have these plugs (couldn't find one at hardware stores such as Lowes or HomeDepot). If I ever put in a lightbar, it'll need to be re-wired. You could probably just plug the wires in the existing plug and keep them in place with electrical tape, as I did for a day just to check it out prior to putting in the plug. Extra wire was cable tied inside the headlamp with existing fuse in place.

I placed the unit inside the sport shield using the RAM U-bolt on the sportshield frame (Had to take the shield off first). It's a slight inconvienence to get the ZUMO off (I must loosen the ball clamps and swivel the unit to unlock with security screw driver), but it's very secure and not easily visible. Plus, the sport shield offers some protection from the weather and provides a slightly darker environment in bright sunlight.

As I figured, the VTX1300 speedometer is off by about 5-6 MPH (76 on VTX is actually 70 MPH). I have the ZUMO bluetoothed with a Scala Rider headset (full-face helmet) and my cell phone. So far, it all works great!

Well, actually it isn't ALWAYS "off" 5-6 mph... but it is "off" about 10% :)

That is a great idea for wiring--thanks for sharing that with me. I do not intend on the scala deal, but the hard wiring makes sense to me...thanks again!
