View Full Version : Plug the inlets or buy plates
Couldn't you simply plug the reed caps when doing a pair removal or are there unforseen problems in doing this. i've read that the only reason that the reed inserts are removed is to provide clearance for the new caps.
I would think that the condensation issue wouldn't apply once the hoses are off.
I'm thinking of doing this mod over the weekend and wanted to know if I should spend the extra 25 bucks.

you can plug the reed covers if you prefer. the only thing is the rubber caps have a tendency to dry rot and can cause leaks farther own the line. if you want to save the exta dollars then tap the covers where the hoses connect and use a pipe plug.be sure to put sealant on the plug threads
They have coasters at Sherms http://www.shermscycleproducts.com/

+1 shyman; my vote is always to block them off. Less chance of potential moisture build-up, less chance of leaking.

I left my reed valves in place in case i ever needed to go back to stock.
I tapped the original covers for a 3/8th bolt and put come sealant on the threads and screwed them in. No leaks and can go back to stock quickly if need be and don't have to buy new reed valves. Works for me.JMHO

True, it works fine the way you did it...reed valves are pretty cheap in all honesty so whatever floats your boat is fine. Capping with vac. caps isn't the way to go though for those that are thinking of going that route.

What is the pair removal? Is this a smog function that can be removed? Either way, please explain the method and the benefit. Thanks in advance,
