I don't use an "Ipod", I have another brand of MP3 player that I use. Mine has a 60 gig harddrive, holds over 15,000 songs, and is the best thing since the invention of the moonshine still.
I select what I want to listen to, turn it on and stick it in my shirt or jacket pocket. Like BG-Pete, I use E2C earbuds.
You could use an XM radio or Sirus, but, they have an antenna that has to point up to a satellite. That means that you MUST have a mount, antenna installed, etc. Waay too much trouble for me, especially since I have all the good music already on my MP3 player.....

I use an iriver clix, with downloads from Urge. Bike kinda of tunes. I'd like to go satellite, but I'm waiting to see what the Sirius/XM merger does to hardware. I only use the MP3 if I'm solo, outta traffic in the back roads.

I have had XM for about 3 years or so..I keep it in my semi during the week, and take it home and hook it up in the garage on weekends..Would like to get some of those handlebar mounted can speakers, but need to hear them before buying...Don't want to buy 'em, just to find out afterwards that they suck...

This post really made me think....:hmm2:
I haven't even considered listening to tunes while riding...
I'm a musician....so it's kinda strange as well...I guess.
Every car I've ever owned....as soon as I took delivery... I tore out the stock headunit and put in something... a bit more...substancial :)
This VTX is a different mindset for me...
I sit on my bike.... and just ...ride... that's all :)
Peace,

iPod. I've been using earphones. If caught, I could get a ticket in Virginia. I just ordered the "2 Wheel Tunes" sound system. I've heard one before. Liked it. Told my brother about it and he bought one and likes it. So today, I placed an order for one.
Pioneer inno / XM radio with ear buds but looking to put speakers in helmet , ear buds are a pain to deal with when putting your helmet on or taking it off but once you got your helmet on and your ear buds situated it works out OK, the inno is also a mp3 player but have not downloaded any thing on it , just listen to the radio. The inno comes with a portable Carrie case with a clip on it and I just clip it to the flap on my tool bag mounted on my bars .I hooked a 12v power point to my battery and have it behind my right side cover and ran the power cord up to my bars from there. It works out well

I still use my hundred year old Sony Walkman, its huge, heavy and beat up, but works great, i like being able to get the news when far from home and the clouds start coming in. Mich uses an Ipod, thing is, if she doesnt use it over the week the batterys go dead and we need to charge it all the way back up, is that normal?

Sirius make a unit calles a "Stiletto". It is the size of an I-Pod and has the antenna built in. This is what I am considering as a future mod. They make a strap to wrap it around the bicep area of your arm and weatherproof covers to keep it dry. They are really slick, you should check it out.

I presently use an iRiver MP3 Player, but will be getting a Sirius system to go on from my bike to the truck. The nice thing about the iRIver is that it has a built in FM tuner that will pick up the FM modulator that is in the satellite radio. This means no wires from the unit to me.
Sirius has made a mounting kit for motorcycles. It's about $70 and makes it easy.

I said the same thing and kept the Stiletto less than a day. When I was standing still in the middle of my street on a clear day, it cut out during 1 song 7 times, taking anywhere from 6-10 seconds to sync up I guess. Then when I tried it on the bike, was not impressed, same thing, but depending on where you are, it can be like 1-2 minutes with no sound. Of course take that for what it will. I am looking or waiting for a 2nd or 3rd generation Stilleto, or should I say, atleast next summer and see if they fix it. For the record even though I don't think it matters I am 30 minutes outside of Chicago.
I find the IPOD is the easiest thing to use for me. Although I miss the radio for local city personalities LOL....Always nice to drive into Kentucky and get that strong accent across the radio waves :D

A musician who doesn't ride with music. My son is a musician. I think he is having his ear buds surgically implanted....he doesn't leave home (or the dorm) without it.

I have an MP3 player that has a built in FM tuner. If I'm wearing my summer half helmet I use ear buds if I'm wearing my Nolan full helmet I plug it into my helmets built in earphones. I listen to the classic rock station when I'm local and my own tunes on the road. :choppersm

I also have a Nolan (N-Comm) but don't have the audio components. What is the sound quality like. I have heard that it is a little "tinny".

If your cell phone has an MP3 player, you could use that with headphones or run it into your speakers or helmet. This saves from dragging a phone plus an IPOD around.

I dont think I would like the idea of having the buds in my ears while riding, may be too distracting but not hearing any noise around me. I would like to get somthing to mount on the bars, not too ugly and somthing that can come off pretty fast.
Bubba have a link to what you are talking about getting? DJ

Bubba have a link to what you are talking about getting? DJ With the buds in you can adjust the volume to where you can hear everything and the music IE exhaust, wind, sirens if any around other cars you know everything you hear while riding without them your just adding one more sound its not that bad or distracting bud like I said earlyer Id rather have speakers in the helmet.
Here is a link to a mount for your handel bars for whatever you choose http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/page/L/PROD/PHONE/EC-Ch

I have tried about 4 differant types of ear phones or what ever you call them small tiny head sets that come with compact players. they all hurt after the helmet starts squeezing them into my ears, the speakers i have built into my Noland are the most comfy, but you cant hear any thing above 40.

I have a sansa express - a wee stick mp3 player. 1GB built in, expandable by 2GB more via micro SD. I have the earbuds that I wear easily with my 3/4 brain bucket. Haven't tried 'em with the full face helmet, but I think that will be a trick to keep in place.
I saw a good idea on the CRAP forums - http://crapmods.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=2571
That looked interesting, and since I have a lot of old headsets laying around it may be a fall mod, since I go to full face when the weather gets cold...

I have the Zumo 550 with the GXM 30 XM Radio antenna. The Garmin unit comes with a RAM mount for the handlebars (It is made for motorcycles) and the sattelite antenna has a magnetic back that sits right on top of my gas tank. I have that wired into a fuseblock that is wired directly into the battery. The Garmin unit also has a 2 gb SD Card slot for MP3's (Which I have loaded up). The screen is very user friendly, able to switch between screens with ease, between XM Radio, MP3's, navigation, trip computer, fuel mileage, speed, elevation, etc. I have Shure EC2's for earphones. This is a great system, but you are going to pay for it. For me, I like touring, and nothing puts you to sleep faster than the droan of the engine. Without music, I would not be able to tour like I do. Good luck on your choice!
If I listen to music it is with my iPod. Most times I just listen to the traffic around me.
Love listening to my iPod on the road, but my earbuds start to hurt after a while. Anybody ever try the cheap helmet speakers off ebay?
