Hi guys, I am getting ready to buy my first VTX, and of course want some good sounding pipes (probably the V&H Big Shots) installed. My local stealership says they want 200 bucks to install them. Is this something I can do myself? I can do basic oil changes etc and am not a total idiot mechanically.
Thanks!

Easy job...all you really need are some basic metric tools (wrenches/sockets), a 12MM crowsfoot or wiggle socket and new exhaust crush gaskets. Having another set of hands around is a good idea as well. Other than that, very straight forward and a simple DIY. Make sure you get the old gaskets out of the jug; will probably need to use a punch or flat blade screwdriver to put an indent in them/get them to deform and get them to come out of there. If you can change oil you can do this mod.
Hope this helps and good luck with your mods.

+1..Do it yourself, and use that $$$ for other stuff you want for your yet to aquire bike...Plus there's the satisfaction of standing back when you're done, beer in hand, looking at your handywork.....

Save the money and do DIY. It is not hard to do and should take a couple hours if you are very slow. Also, check out the internet for the best deals and for the best sound go with the HK Sideburners if you like the looks.

Do it yourself! Go to Xtreamrevolution.com and see what you can buy for $200 bucks should make this question null and void!

DIY...
Hang around on this forum long enough and you'll be able to do it all yourself.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I agree $200 sounds insane for something that I can't imagine taking them more than an hour to do (with the right tools)... and yes Mike, those HK sideburners looks sw$$t !!! Now if I can just find the "right" deal on a bike... anyone know if you can put "R" fenders on a "C" bike???

take the rear cap off the factories and cut the exhaust 1/4" from the end. Replace the end caps with stainless rivets. It will not only sound great, but also no need for jetting, and still has the stock look. Also I am getting between 50 - 53 mpg 2 up(375lbs in the seats) in this configuration.
