I have a 02 1800c wiht a hondaline windshield and I want to install a front lightbar. The windshield looks like it might have to be cut and or notched to accomodate a light bar. Does anyone have any experience with this situation or any suggestions. Thanks

What lightbar are you considering???..The Hondaline lightbar will fit just fine...The Cobra has clearance issues however....That's why I sent it back, and got the Honda lightbar....

Bass,
I hadn,t really decided on a lightbar, The one by big bike parts or showchrome is probably at the top of my list, but am looking at the kuryakyn with the led turns, also the national cycle or the jardines. The Hondaline windshield that I have has two notches or cutouts for the turn signals and a hole cut out for the headlight and it appears that with any of these lightbars that some modification of the windshield might be required. I haven,t been able to find much information about windshields and lightbar compatiability.

I suggest that you might want to go to parts suppliers websites, and read customer reviews on the ones you're considering...When I got mine, that's what I did..I learned that the National Cycles lightbar has it's own turn signals, and they vibrate quite a bit, causing the bulbs to fail on a regular basis....I wanted to use my stock turn signals, and like the 4" lights, so that narrowed it down to the Cobra, and the Hondaline....Fitment issues with the Cobra got me the Hondaline....I just noticed you have an 1800, so there may be more options for you than I had.....Here's a link to the thread about my lightbar issues...http://www.vtxcafe.com/showthread.php?t=7825 Maybe some other guys will chime in with their advice...Good luck...

In the long run you cant beat the Honda bar for value.

Its compatible with other Honda accessories and plug-n-play, no wire cutting or splicing.

from what I understand, the light bar will not cut off like the headlight does when you turn the starter. to fix this problem, here is a post from VTX tech knowledge base:
I have the Hondaline lightbar on my 2003 Retro. I've not been pleased by Honda's decision to have the lightbar on only when the low beams are being used. Last night, I decided to fix this thing. I examined the harness which came with the lightbar and learned the following (being an Electrical Engineer for 30 years helped here):

Contrary to popular belief, the spotlights are not powered by the headlight circuit. Honda provided a 3-pin connector in the headlight housing to connect the lightbar harness to. It turns out that power to the spotlights is provided by the brown/black wire in the 3-pin connector, which also shares the following on this circuit: front running lights, horn, temp indicator, tail light and license plate light. Additional wires in the 3-pin connector include a green wire (ground) and a blue wire, which is the power for the high beam light and high beam indicator light. The green and blue wires connect, through the supplied harness to the coil on the wiring harness relay, which incidentally, is a normally-closed relay. In other words, when no power is supplied to the relay coil the contacts are closed. It is through these contacts that the power to the spotlights is provided. What happens is that, when you select high beam, the relay energizes and the contacts open, shutting off power to the spotlights. This means that, to get the spotlights to operate constantly when the ignition switch is turned on, all you have to do is to clip the blue wire coming from the vehicle wiring harness to the 3-pin connector. This keeps the relay de-energized always, resulting in the spotlights always being on. It is a good idea to protect the vehicle harness end of the blue wire, after clipping, to prevent shorts. I put several layers of heat-shrink tubing on the wire.
hope this helps some of ya. :icon_mrgr

my windshield had to be trimmed so my litebar would fit. but it was done before I bought my bike. Okie Bob has done this to his bike and posted the directions on how to trim the windshield. you might do a search and see if you can find that thread. if not you might pm him about it. good luck

Thanks for the replies guys, I think after doing a little research and reading what you have to say that I am going to get the Honda lightbar. I like the windshield the way it is and was able to see some pictures with this windshield and the Honda lightbar and it looked pretty good. Its a little more $ but from what I gather its pretty good quality.

Bass, since I know you have one, does it come with a switch or does it come on automatically when the bike is started and if it does have a switch where is the switch located

Thanks for the info
