I just installed a set of stock shocks that Pete at SOTMC had reworked to lower my X 1.5 inches , they are on and the back end is definately slammed on the lowest setting , much more cost effective way to drop the rear over progressive shocks

pete does nice work. You wont feel much change in your ride either. I had a set of his 2-3 years back. I also had a set of 412's and a set of 440's. I put the cut down stockers back on and sold the progressives. I just couldnt see the difference in ride for all the added $$$

Has anyone tried Scootworks lowering kits? They claim you dont need after-market shocks or any modifications and can be done in as little as 15mins and can get up 2.5in difference?

Go to www.kingpincycles.com (http://www.kingpincycles.com).
They have 10 1/2 shocks for $159.95. I have them on my 1300R. My wife and I rode from Merritt Island to Key West with the bike loaded. The only time they ever bottom out is when I hit a driveway to fast. I have had them about a year, drive 2 up most of the time and they have held up great. They were a little stiff at first but feel great now. I don't know if they changed or if I just got used to them.
Good Luck.

go to vtx1300tips.com for a detailed set of instructions for various maintenance procedures or mods...including replacing the front fork springs.

Almost 2" would be my guest. I just took them off my bike. I never noticed how stiff they were. I was down in the keys with a buddy that also has a 1300R. We switched bikes on a run from Marathon to Key West (53 miles). I really noticed the difference. I have been beating the hell out of myself and the wife. After a ride with the stock shocks back on my wife made it very clear not to put the stiff ones back on. They are good shocks, but very stiff. I will probably get some progressives. Everybody raves about them.

Thanks for all the great tips. My next question is if anyone has had to move the foot controls rearward at all... maybe an inch? If so, what is the best way? Someone noted that it is not how tall you are but how much inseem. I am more torso than legs it seems. I can reach the foot break and shifter ok but it is a little of a stretch. Any ideas would be great.
