Good evening everyone.

The name's dane, i'm new to the website.

I don't own a vtx, nor do i plan to purchase one, BUT, i have a half decent reason for signing up. :bleh:

I have an upcoming interview for a local motorcycle shop in the area. They mainly sell kawasaki and honda products, and for my interview process, i have to try and "sell" a Honda VTX 1800 to the sales manager.

I'm not new to riding .. been riding for about 5 years now, mainly sport bikes. Currently own a 2007 Suzuki GSXR600 but am not a squid and hate on other types of enthusiasts because they don't ride crotch rockets. If i had any buddies that owned a cruiser, and they'd let me ride it, i'd hope on it in a heart beat .. and i secretly want a goldwing :D.

Anyway, my question to all you vtx owners is this.

Why the vtx?
What made you choose this motorcycle vs the competition (kawasaki, yamaha, HD, etc).
What was one of the features of the bike that sold you on it?
How much more reliable has it been because it's a honda?

Thanks for the imput everybody .. hope you all are having a half decent winter .. the motorcycle forum i'm on is chaos because it's winter time. :p

My best answer to that questions is "it's a Honda". I own 4 Hondas right now and had 5 up to a month ago. I had 3 cars and 2 bikes. Nothing wrong with the other brands you mentioned but they are NOT Hondas.

I'm a long time Honda owner, from my first CT70 Minitrail...When I started looking at buying another bike, it was either going to be a late '70's/early '80's Goldwing, or a new VTX....Harley wasn't even considered due to their extremely high prices..A comparable HD would've run almost twice what I paid for my VTX...I really liked the styling of the VTX also..The shape of the tank really flows with the lines of the bike, where some other's gas tanks look more like an afterthought....Honda reliability is a given...You don't have to constantly wrench on them... Just wash it and ride it.....:choppersm

Classic looks, no hype, reliability, excellant service available in more places than other brands. Oh, and did I mention, "It called my name", my brother will swear to it...walked in...and there was a voice in the air. "Bill, come to the Honda side, VTX section please".

Reliability is the first thing that comes to mind. No break downs. I have 2 honda cars, one with 170,000 miles on it and going strong as well as a honda lawnmower. In addition, Great price for the bike. My wife likes it. Lots of good chrome to add on to it. Good dealership in my area, Great VTX site and people(i am such a suck up:spank:) Last but not least, I look really good on it. Good luck with your job. :choppersm

I am a two time honda motorcycle owner. Former crotch rocket junkie with a 04 CBR-1000RR.

Why the VTX, simple the looks size and comfort level all rolled into one package. Reliability reliability, reliability!!!! The only way something goes wrong with my Honda is if I start tinkering with it.

I was actually going to buy an H-D had the paperwork done up and about to sign, when the Old Lady told me, "I want a bike too" so for the price of one H-D I now have two Honda's one VTX 1300R and a Shadow 750 Spirit, with enough money left over to buy after market accessories galore.

Now the 1800 I cannot attest to but how can you argue with I believe (correct me if I am wrong) 120 ft/lbs of torque from the factory? Fuel Injection! Dual disc up front! You can't look at comparable models from different companies, both foreign and domestic (by the way VTX is assembled where? Heavens no not an American made bike is with mostly American produced parts? Probably more so than your local H-D atleast! Okayt I am done, someone come in and correct everything I stated wrong in here lol....

Good luck with your interview!

Well having owned Yamaha, HD and Honda previously when it came time to start looking for a bike again I knew up front I wanted another Honda. Years ago (1986) I had a 650 Nighthawk that I loved. Never had to do any repairs on it... not even once... just changed the oil regulary and rode. As far as the VTX, simply because I think it's a beautiful machine was my first attraction. Kinda like a pretty girl, the look draws you in and you find out as you go there's more to her than meets the eye... my 1800 was the same way. I spent 6 months lurking around on the boards here at the cafe and reading just about every single post daily. The looks, reliability, power and downright sexy styling sold me. Not to mention all the great Honda owners on this site. I'm 100% satisfied with my decision and have no regrets at all about my purchase.

this is my first bike.......I have the 1300R.....I didnt want to spend too much money on a bike in case I didnt like it.....I did want a bike that was visually appealing and a little different looking than the typical mc.....I didnt want black, most have that.....so the VTX fit the bill....also the wife and I planned on riding together, so it had to accomodate both of us, which it does.....there are tons of after market parts for it so I can make it my own......and this site, which has way more info than any sales person I have ever met!!!!!

:choppersmreason #1, reliability, it's a honda, what more can you say.
#2, it was recomemded by a friend who rides one, has had his for 2 yrs and over 50,000 miles and no problems.
#3 performamce, these bikes have plenty of power for what you need, and they will cruise all day long.
#4 looks, Honda has produced 3 destinct styles to choose from, the c, r and n. I ride the an r model and is set up to ride 2 up and to carry bags for long rides. we can ride for 5 days with no problems.
#5 price, you can pick these bikes up at a very good price new or used, they are very easy on your pocket book. (this is also before any mods are done)
they are easy to maintain.
Now sir, which style of 1800 would you be interested in.

I am a new bike owner, and the 1800R is my first bike. I have been around bikes and bikers for years, and have a good impression of Hondas from alot of friends who rode them. Not that Yamahas, or Kawasakis are bad bikes, mind you, but Honda is the Ultra-reliable motorcycle, and when your tush is cruising down the road at 65 MPH or more, you want to know that the bike you have is going to get you there, and home again...

Then when you throw into the mix a new rider, that also says something about the engineering of this bike, which once you get used to the weight, is a very easy bike to ride. My MSF course had the Rebels and Nighthawks, which were great little scoots, but even they were not as smooth and steady as the 1800 VTX. It just handles smooth as whipped butter. I really appreciate that.

Since buying my bike, I have discovered that there are more after-market parts to the VTX than I have seen for ANY other bike, short of Harleys (which are just too over-priced for what you get). But each and every bike can be made into a completely unique beast, a perfect reflection of the owner.

So there you have it, for me, overall, it is value and quality that is second to none, the ability to customize, and with the quality where one doesn't worry about how long before the first breakdown, because very likely, there won't be any.

Honda 1800 VTX- The bike that will let you ride comfortably and affordably for a very, very long time, and with a classic style that takes you way back to the golden age of motorcycles, but with the reliability that tells you that the golden age is really today. (My own little commercial spot-produced just for the VTX )
