With the Ipod you gotta be connected to WiFi. Other than that, same as Google maps/earth.

I have had an Iphone since they came out and the map function is useless without a signal or WiFi.

The "GPS on Iphone" feature isn't true GPS :hmm2:, it uses the different sites in the immediate area to triangulate your approximate location. Better than nothing :) And yes you have to be connected to have this feature work :(. When you are driving through populated areas WIFI will probably be available on someones wireless that is not deploying WEP. Rural areas will be hit or miss, mostly miss. Just my .02
