    Exclamation Charging issue

My 03 obviously has a charging issue, if I drive for any distance other than a short run the battery goes dead. I replaced the battery about a year ago with one that had greater cold cranking than stock.

I just put a multi-meter on the battery and got some strange results. Prior to testing the battery was fully charged and I got a 14.6 reading. After letting it warm up I checked again while running, at idle about the same 14.5 or so. But when I increased the engine speed the readings were all over the place. It dropped down to 5, up to 9, down again, up again to 11, etc.

If anyone has any ideas on how to narrow down what the issue is I would appreciate any info.
I know its either the stator or rectifier, was planning on changing out the rectifier first as its easier & cheaper. But if that is just throwing $ at something that isnt the problem, it would be helpful to know.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks
    Scott

a battery voltage will not go from 14 volts down to 5 and up to 9 in a second or 2... have the battery LOAD TESTED at an auto parts store.. maybe a broken connection inside of battery or you have a broken battery cable ... check them both red and black...

MAY have found the problem. I tightened the battery terminals with a socket, both were slightly loose.
Rechecked and now it looks like I have around 13.6 volts regardless of rpm.

    Keeping fingers crossed......

Check it with the engine off, key off. Start engine, meter should drop while starting and climb to 13.6-14.5ish engine running. Just a quick way check.

Uncross your fingers. You found the problem before 20 members told you to try exactly what you did! Congrats on solving your problem.
