    Iron Butt Challenge

    Hey guys,
Has anyone here done the Iron Butt Saddlesore challenge? For those that don't know what that is, it is driving 1,000 miles within 24 hours. I was wondering if anyone here has done it on a VTX. I have an 02 VTX 1800c, and I was thinking of going from Boston to Charleston, SC and I figured why not try and do this challenge. Also has anyone here done serious long distance riding with the VTX? If so, how did she handle?

Do a search and you will most likely find enough to read to make your butt sore from sitting that long. I have made several long trips on my VTX including a 1250 mile 21 hour trip from Daytona Beach to Springdale AR, 1100 miles in 17 hours from Harrisburg PA to Little Rock AR and 3 times straight back from Sturgis usually about 1,000ish miles. Never felt the need to pay to get a patch or certificate that said I rode a long way. Planning and preparation are the keys to any successful trip. Welcome to the site and good luck in your travels.

I've done it many times on several bikes in the '70s and a couple times later. But it was to visit friends and not gain rewards.

There are many IBA sanctioned "challenges" and they are all hella-impressive. License plate stickers, patches, etc. about these rides are cool and good conversation starters. I have no desire to try any of these challenges. My longest day on a bike was about 650 miles. Good luck to you.

I have done 850 miles in a day on my GPz1100 (starting in Antigonish, NS, all the way around the outside of Cape Breton Island, and back to Petitcodiac, NB) and over 900 on my ST1100. Both bikes had 400+ mile fuel range. I doubt that I could do more than 500 miles in a day on the VTX.

I ride long distances a lot and have a 1500 Goldwing and a1800VTX S and both have an Ultimate seat, I'd ride either any distance. I've done 965 miles in a day pulling a camper behind the Goldwing and did the 650 miles with Vinish down then the 650 miles back the next day on the VTX and honestly done right the VTX is as or more comfortable than the Wing!
