    I'm thinking about doing this mod on my air box FP3 kit is on the way. Do you think it would be beating a dead horse to mill a .125" slot in the side on the air box facing the front of the bike? My thinking is to use the other side of the air filter to suck in air.

    So I am new to this forum and this is my very first post. I just bought a 2008 VTX 1800 and I would like to do this "airbox decapitation" but I have a question. To the best of my knowledge my bike is fuel injected but you mention doing carb modifications after cutting the airbox, does this fuel injected bike have a carb? I always understood that fuel injection took the place of carbs. Wouldnt the computer compensate for the increased airflow? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I havent had the bike apart yet, this would be the first modification I would have done. Also on a side note, will this even help if the pipes remain stock with the desmog system in place?

    The procedure outlined in this thread pertains to the 1300 carbed bikes. We with the 1800 fuel injected engine can do the same thing but it looks a bit different. I took mine apart when I did the de-smog. Go to bareasschoppers.com and you will find an excellent write up on it, and a bunch of other excellent info on your bike.
