I'm planning to change my oil for the first time on my 1300c,,,,what type of oil is best,,, and is the a site to give me a quick walk through.... thanks
I'm doing the same thing tomorrow. I have 2600 miles on mine and will be making the switch to Amsoil synthetic. Here is a link on how to change the oil. http://www.bareasschoppers.com/ The left margin has all kinds of topics...oils changes...final drive oil change, etc. I've seen it done. Pretty simple really.
I believe the procedure is in the owners manual if you don`t have a service manual, and also go to Honda owners link where you can print it out and save your personal records online. Vtxoa.com garage tips for 1300 has lots of info. I just used 10w40 car oil as I only intended to leave it in a short time & then switch to Amsoil synthetic mcf10w40. Just don`t used energy conserving oil, I bought the filter wrench $10 from Honda directline (doesn`t slip) and several filter $7, shipped them to Port Huron,Mi. I do it on the kickstand & use 2 turkey basting trays (for strength) to catch the oil
First, download the free service manual. It shows you what to do: http://s2.quicksharing.com/v/3502916/VTX1300S.pdf.html There are 2 drain bolts. As for brands of oil, any 10-40 motorcycle oil will do. Don't add synthetics until you have more miles on the bike. I use a Purolator Pure One PL14610 oil filter available for less than $6 at any auto parts store.
