Can't hardly wait. I got a new Ultimate Big Boy seat and I'm itchin to put some miles on it. I can go either way on staying 2 nights in Ga vs friday night ga/saturday night robbinsville.

I think there's plenty of good roads in GA to keep us busy for a few days(plus we don't have to pack up our stuff and ride around on saturday fully loaded). But, on the other hand, I've never gotten to ride the Skyway.

Hmm, what to do, what to do????

The Skyway is a nice ride and can be done easily and return to Helen for the night. I could keep you busy for several days in the NE GA area without getting very far from Helen.

We usually like to keep the actually riding time to 4-5 hours(that way there's time for stops and bs'ing).
Make sure you plan some good eating spots along the way. us Cafe'ers are serious about our eating plans.

Lodging issues so far....

X http://www.copperheadlodge.com has a wedding that weekend and is booked so it's off the list.

http://www.highvalleyresort.com/ has not returned any calls in over a week...if we stay there we have to be comfy with sleeping in the same rooms (bunk style) unless you stay in the small bunkhouses (but they have no A/C).

http://hoochcabins.com/ has rates of $225 a night +10 per person after 2 people....so around $300 a night / 4 couples = 75 a couple...it sleeps 8-11 people depending on cabin. Waiting to hear back also...

X http://www.twowheelsonly.com/ have a rally and are full.

There's an Econo Lodge in Dahlonega, GA just a few miles south of Suches. Rooms there are less than $60 per night.

Day's Inn also around $65 per night. There's a Super8 also for the same price

Either Dahlonega or Cleveland would work from a riding standpoint, both are convenient. The advantage of staying in Helen is that restaurants and bars are within walking distance from the motels. I checked the rates for several motels in Helen:
Super 8 - $112 - $122
Days Inn - $89.96
Best Western $129.99
EconoLodge $89.99
Country Inn & Suites $134.10
Quality Inn $80.95

Rates are per night

How many rooms will be needed? I'll talk to a friend that owns a business in Helen, she might be friends with some of the motel owners. Maybe we can negotiate a better rate.

We are still waiting to hear from several people so I'm not for sure yet...also, if some of the single (1 up not un-married...lol) want to share a room that would help $$$ too. Helen sounds like a blast, looked at photos and I like it. I would guess 12-15 rooms right now...maybe we will know better in a week or so.

I would much rather go for 60's/night than 90/night. Just my $0.02 worth. Helen is neat, but not much to do except for walking around to all the shops.

I want AC and my own room. Nothing personel, just like some alone time and that is hard to get being married!

Best Western Helen is giving us a group rate of $79.00 a night (was $129.00), down stairs pool side. Let me know ASAP if this sounds good.

I went ahead and grabbed a block of 15 rooms under my name. If this sounds good we can proceed, don't call and make reservations, I already have them!!!!
