I know there are a couple types of tachometers, but is there a difference between a tachometer for say a Goldwing and a VTX, or a suzuki boulevard and a VTX? Thanks.

There is a difference, but I don't remember exactly what it is. It has to do with how your ignition fires and the number of cylinders. Some bikes fire on just the power stroke and others fire on the power and exhaust stroke.

I just made sure I bought one specific for my bike.

i heard someone say on another thread that the 1300's are single fire ingnition bikes. Keep checking the threads and use the search button. You'll find what your looking for.
