Hi all…I tried a search and really didn’t find an answer. I’m looking for a nice sissy bar with a backrest that will allow me to still use the rear two fender bolts to attach my saddle bags. I bought one off of Amazon, but didn’t realize that the side pieces use the front two bolts and cover the rear bolt, making use of my saddle bags impossible without modifying the side piece and rounding the chrome finish.

It appears that the dramatic majority of sissy bars have a similar design for the 1300C.

Do any of you have experience with a sissy bar that uses the rear bolt, or at least doesn’t cover it up? Thanks for any guidance you can provide. It doesn’t need to be show-quality or anything, and it would be nice if the price is kept decently low, but not so cheap that it rusts in my desert climate 🤣

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Had exactly the same thing with my 1800 C and my LeatherLyke's. Decided you have to really look to see it, bit the bullet, and using grinding stones for a nice round half circle cutout, went at it. After that, the bags still didn't sit right, as the fender rails weren't perfectly parallel, so the bags looked from the rear like they were farther apart in the fronts than the rears. Had to get a couple longer rear bolts and spacers to make them parallel. It's always something.

The Cobra and it's clones use the 2 rear bolts on a "C" model, not sure but I think the Calvary Custom uses the 2 rear bolts. They have a customer service #

Yeah, I actually used a hole saw to cut out a the space for the mounting bracket to go through, but then the thickness of the mounting bracket made the front of the bags look pushed out. Then after doing that, I realized they the width of the backrest panel and the luggage rack were about 2” too wide to fit. I just packaged it back up and sent it back for a refund…still waiting to see if the return gets challenged 🤷🏼‍♂️

See the circled area…this is the one that I bought, and it covers the rear bolt hole with solid metal. That rear bolt hole is where my rear bracket for my Viking bags bolt up. Hopefully that helps visualize it. I was so frustrated with the product that I didn’t take any photos while it was on the bike.

I had something like this a long time ago. I just drilled a hole in the bracket that allowed the saddle bag mounting post to poke through the bracket.

Thanks for sharing the pics...I wish I would have taken photos, because even the rear end of the side brackets for the sissy bar were about an inch away from the fender bracket. That stopped me from being able to just tighten the back bracket to the outside of the sissy bar mounting bracket. I know, it's all a bit confusing if you weren't there having all of the fun that I did. I'm starting to think that they sent me one for the 1300r/s instead of the C.

I seen a video of this guy installing a bag to his sissy bar just sharing.
Yeah, I went ahead and ordered a new one from a different brand. I'm going to take my chances, and as long as the side brackets for the sissy bar (that bolt to the fender brackets) don't stick an inch away from the fender bracket at the rear bolt hole, I'll be able to just drill a hole and move on and be happy with that. I'll have to wait and see what comes in the mail next week to determine how to proceed, but at least the images of the whole thing look like it's the correct width. This is the one that I just ordered on Amazon, so hopefully it works well.
