After going to biketoberfest I have 100% concluded that I'm getting a VTX( isn't the right dear?)
I was wondering what you 1800 folks were pulling for gas milage?
My new bike will be for going back and forth to work ~11 miles each way, usually running 45-65mph. OH and for going to daytona twice a year:drunk:

Nighthawk - one additional question I have is, "are you going to be riding alone or will you have a passenger?"

My riding is a lot like yours....17 miles to work...65 mph (yeah right) usually...and the occasional trip to northern Wisconsin. However, I'm 6 ft 275 and at times take my wife as a passenger (when she's not riding herself). Between the 2 of us, that would totally max out the max weight allowance on the 1300 so I opted for the 1800 and do not regret it at all. It has the power to get me/us away from "stickey" situations and has a wonderful ride on the open road. I also like the EFI. Some say the 1300 sounds better, but I like my 1800 and the power and feel of it.

My mpg is between 35 and 38 on avg. I have an R, so with a 5 gal tank, I generally get between 150-170 miles per tank.

Ditto what BG-Pete said. I commute to work daily about 30 miles each way and it's open road most of that distance, so 60-65 mph most of the way. I'm also a big guy. I get between 38-40 mpg, depending on the city/highway mix. The reserve fuel light on my retro usually kicks on around 170-175 miles.

I usually ride by myself, but my wife will ride along from time to time. I'm 6'5" and about 275 myself. My wife is about ^$^&@$% (censored) I'm glad to hear you're getting above 30mpg. I'm a little nervous about the 1300"wobble" I keep hearing about.

Man it's good to hear these numbers. I have a friend who has an 1800 and was telling me he was getting about 110 miles a tank :icon_yike :icon_cens .

What other modifications does he have. I have heard that different pipes or air intakes have a negative effect on milage. Most of my riding is a combination of city/highway...pure highway, I was at 170 per tank...and yes...using 87 octane...:D ....sorry, had to throw that in.

The gas tank on the C is not as big as the R. I have a C and my light comes on around 110 miles. It is somewhat of a pita. Last time I calculated it, I was getting 35 mpg (110miles on the tank putting in 3.1 gals at the station)

I'm getting 40-42 mpg, not to many mods to the engine.
This being a California VTX I did do a De-smog and open up the air box to let her breath. The exhaust has been drilled for a little more tone.
One thing about the 1800 mpg, it can very a hell of a lot by how much Hot Rodding you do. I seen mileage drop as low 26 mpg from hot rodding it.
If your Satisfied with the stock HP and your wanting to get the most MPG that you can get I would suggest the B&B fuel manger. Its been reported to get as much as 50 MGP if your just cruising. But you won't need a Fuel manger unless you change to a after market set of pipes. But just remember, more horse power means lower mileage. If you like tweaking the bike for every ounce of HP you can get out of her, your not going to get the best gas mileage.
My 2 cents
Everyone ride safe:patriot:

I get around 40 MPG with the 1300, and, I'll tell you, it's certainly capable for 2 up riding. I've done it a lot, and it works great. Moreover, the 1300 is easier to ride.

However, the 1800 doesn't get a significant increase or decrease in mileage. They're about the same. If you want power, get that 1800, baby!

Reading these posts makes me feel like a little guy at 6' and 190lbs.
35mpg in city and 40 on hwy, but I ride pretty hard all the time.
EFI on the 1800 means the only regular maint. is to change the oil and filter. No regulat tune-ups! Valves, plugs, pads, etc. only when you need it. Of course, you should never go more than a couple of years without changing the brake fluid on ANY vehicle.

Nighthawk, I have a 1300C with Clayton mod pipes, K&N filter, no other mods. I drove solo to Daytona and I got 50-52 mpg highway (minimum speed 70 mph), 40-42 city. I have never gotten below 40 mpg no matter what I do. Riding 2 up on th highway I get 46 mpg. I'm also a big guy, 240 lbs.

Hmmm, I may need to start worrying. My 1800R has no engine mods, stock pipes and less than 2,000 miles. I have been getting about 34 in town. Took the bike for a 400 mile ride and ran at 80 to 85 mph a lot of the time, 87 octane gas, and only got about 30. I wonder if I should check into this or just wait for some more "break-in" time. Actually, with the smooth ride at 80 and all that power to pass with, I guess I won't worry about it too much! Still, ...

Check your tire pressure. I run mine at about 42. The less drag the better the gas mileage

I get about 45 miles a gallon with my 1800 VTX me my self I"d do like you said maybe give it some more break in time, but I would have it checked at a later date, if it stayed the same. That 1800 sure has ALOT of power doesnt it? Good luck Eddie (Justbugging)

What type of riding do you do, and what mods have you made?
