well..i finally got around to doing it!!!:mosh::choppersm

i swapped to a 1300 FD this past weekend.......it was well worth the effort! it only took about 2 hours to do the swap, remove exhaust and replace gaskets (still got some popping :banghead: ) and almost dropped the bike when lowering it off the Jack (helpful tip folks.......put the kickstand DOWN BOFORE you completely lower the bike....Mmmm K? ;) )

i took it for ride, found that i need to roooooll out the clutch much more in first since the gear ration is higher. cruising at 50+/- i dont feel like i am in the wrong gear and i can actually do it in forth gear and still feel OK with the RPMS/Rev. when in fifth gear at same speed, i get the "vibration" as if i am in too low of a gear to pass and feel the need to downshift, unlike before i could roll on it and get up to speed much easier with less "vibration" BUT i was expecting this :)

have not been on the highway yet at 70, looking forward to it!

I feel the gearing is much more appropriate now, having such short shifts and high RPMS never really felt right for this bike to me! Glad i did it!!!

why didnt Honda put these gears on the bike? :hmm2::confused:

i have never really wrenched on a bike before this one, but i am getting more and more comfortable doing it and enjoying the heck of it! :D

so a 1300 final drive in an 1800 does what? please enlighten me lol
It has a lower gear ratio, so your engine turns at a lower RPM at any given speed.
It will nearly correct your speedo error, but will also create an error in your odometer.
Almost like adding sixth gear at cruise, and stretches out your shift points.

i thought this was the reason why 1300 guys were swapping out for the 1800's. shaft driven is new to me, so would it better for me to stay with the drive i have now or swap for an 1800.

1800 FD on a 1300 gives it more "get up and go" some 1300 folks like the short shifts and getting up to speed faster, especially if you ride 2 up or with lots of weight, since 1300's have less HP/Torque it kinda makes up for it a bit from what i have been told. i have never ridden a 1300, so this is second hand information and not based on personal experience. i read plenty on it and knew its was right for me to do the swap.

NOW, if i was towing a trailer, i would prefer a 1800 FD on my 1800 and i would think especially better to have an 1800 FD on a 1300 if this were the case

you can do a forum search and read up on it more, there is plenty of info on here about it!

anyone is welcome to add or correct me on this

Have a 1300 FD on an 1800 for 4 years now. Great for cruising. Challenges are in the curves and canyons in the 35-50 range to find the right gearing without lugging or to high RPM. 1800 FD tends to be quicker and gearing is easier to manage in the curves and canyons.

It is a one for one swap...no extra needs...plug and play.
