Hi all,

I've just taken ownership of an 2005 1800. I took it out for its first ride, full of hope and excitement, only for the bike to cut out, revs dropped, power dropped and came to a standstill.

It now won't turn over, and I get the "Click Of Death" from the starter button. All lights, warning lights work when I turn the ignition on, it tries to turn over when I press the start button but no more after that. Any ideas or help would be great!

Start with the battery, make sure it's fully charged, then take it to an automotive parts store that will do a free 100 amp automotive, not motorcycle 20amp, LOAD test. Once the battery is confirmed as either needing replaced or not, then check the terminals after putting the battery back in. Tighten with a socket or wrench, NOT a screwdriver. There are tons of similar posts like this. Let us know and someone will proceed with the next steps for you to check. Lights will work with 12 weak volts, but it won't run with a weak battery and will not start with low amps, and will, in fact cause other problems with the starter solenoid contacts and ability to start. DO NOT spray any starter fluid into the airbox!

Problems with a weak battery? Absolutely. With FI and all the electrics/ electronics, and the electrical system being at nearly full capacity when running, it's imperative to have a good battery. Invest $30 in a Battery Tender Jr., or Plus model for a few $ more, to keep the battery topped off when it's sitting.

Thanks for the help guys, I took it to my local garage and they found 2 wires from the stator were shot, as well as replacing the kaput battery. She's now running like a dream, although is now showing a FI fault light for the O2 sensor heater!

It never rains, it pours. 😅
